"Okay, What is your guilty pleasure?" Melody asks, taking a bite of her pizza.

I had invited Melody over to hang out since Ryan and my mom were out at a doctors appointment for Ryan.

I wanted to get to know her better, we only see each other a little bit after school.

Homecoming is in two weeks, and I'm determined to get her to the game.

And I really like being around her.

We've been hanging out a little everyday after I have practice in the choir room.

She's super cool.

"Guilty pleasure...Promise you wont laugh?" I ask.

"I promise" she says, crossing her heart.

I roll my head "My guilty pleasure is listening to Broadway musicals and singing along when no ones home"

Melodys mouth drops "You're kidding!" she laughs

"Melody, you promised!" I whine.

"This is too good!" She smiles.

"My dad is in the military and it calmed him down when he was home" I explain.

"Aw!" She smiles "That's awesome"

"Would be better if he didn't leave" I state.

Melodys smile drops "Oh...I'm sorry"

"It's fine" I pause "You've never talked about your parents before, You live with your aunt and uncle"

Melody freezes, staring at the ground and biting her lip, her hair falling in her face.

"You don't have to-"

"Yeah, That's a conversation for another day" She says, taking a shaky breath in "Anyway, You sing?"

"I mean uh I guess? Not as good as you but um...I don't know" I shrug.

"Charming" She laughs, getting up.

"Where are you going?" I ask, watching her walk out.

I get up, following her "I saw a piano in here" She says.

She sits at the piano in my living room.

"What's your favorite musical?" She asks, patting the seat.

I sit down next to her "Why?"

"We are going to sing a duet, Now tell me" She orders.

"I like the last five years the best" I shrug.

She nods, pulling out her phone "You sing the guy part obviously"

She starts playing the piano and then starts her part.

Her voice is amazing, like always.

And soon I join in.

She smiles and continues the song.

I had to admit, we sounded good.

Sure, She was better.

But I'm so focused on sports I don't have time to practice and get better.

I looked over at her when we started singing together, she stared straight ahead, sometimes closing her eyes while hitting certain notes.

When we finished the song she looked over at me "That was amazing!"

"Not as good as you" I shake my head, breaking the eye contact.

"No. No! You have a good voice James" She states.

"Says you" I say, nudging her shoulder.

I could've sworn I saw a slight blush, but she hid behind her hair before I could really tell.

"We're home!" I hear Ryan say, entering the kitchen.

"I haven't seen that piano open for years" My mom states, seeing us.

"Mom this is Melody, She's Mr. Henerys niece" I explain.

"Hi, Melody" My mom smiles, shaking Melodys hand.

"Nice to meet you miss Wells" she smiles.

Ryan runs up to Melody "Are you James' girlfriend?"

Melody blushes "No"

"Okay, I  was going to say, I thought he liked Whitney" Ryan shrugs.

Melody laughs and stands up "Ryan you are my new best friend"

"Cool!" Ryan smiles.

I roll my eyes.

"I have to head out, nice meeting you!" Melody smiles.

"Nice meeting you too dear!" My mom smiles.

Melody walks out and my mom sends Ryan to his room.

"How was the appointment?" I ask.

"Well after meeting with his teacher and hearing how he's struggling with certain reading and writing skills and now the tests he just took....The doctors are saying he's showing early signs of dyslexia" My mom explains.

"Dyslexia?"
