Word of the Day: Penalty

Lunette foresaw a fire that would swallow half the town.

She warned her family, friends — but they ignored and frowned.

At night, she dreamed of children's screams, crushed in the inferno.

She kept her visions to herself. They didn't want to learn so.

Then came the Day of Dark Decay — the smoke had choked the skies.

The clouds, besmirched with ashes. The sun, a blinded eye.

The townsfolk then recalled the omen-words of young Lunette:

"How could a girl of sweet sixteen predict a cruel event?"

"Is she a witch?!" "Is she the one who caused the cursèd Blaze?!"

Dull minds, dull hearts, dull penalty — Lunette burns at the stake.
