Chapter Three:

Faceless Anger

-...-

6 AM and the sun was just peeking out from the horizon. Those who had work were slowly getting up, while those who were lucky continued to sleep until later. Guards yawned while taking their shift, and a slightly cool breeze swept pass the buildings. The Kingdom of Minecraftia was slowly waking up from the peaceful night before, unprepared for the chaos that was about to go down.

It wasn't long after the hour when three outsiders on horses with The Melon Kingdom's armor galloped passed the Kingdom’s entrance. With permission, the outsiders raced towards the kingdom, citizens peaking out of their windows to see what the noise was. On the horses were three men, two assisting the third. One was a Melon Army General and the other was one of the Sky Army's guards. On the third horse was Rotten.

Riding past the fountain and over the bridge, the three came to a stop at the front of the castle. Jumping off the black horse, Rotten passed one of the guards at the door.

“I must see The King!” Rotten hissed.

Rotten and the two others walked inside, being escorted to the Throne Room. When they entered the room, The King was speaking to General Goldsolace and Sub. The three stopped and everyone in the room looked at the outsiders.

“My King.” Rotten walked over, stopping and dipping his head when only a few feet away. The two following did the same. Goldsolace and Sub stepped back.

“Rotten?” King Sky asked, looking surprised.

Rotten's voice shook, but the pumpkin was obviously trying his best to take the situation as professional as possible. Sky even noticed the poor thing shaking a bit.

“The Squids have attacked.” Rotten reported. “They kidnapped Prince Bashur last night.”

Sky's eyes widen. He looked back at Brice and Sub. They nodded to him and Sky turned his head to Rotten.

“What happened!?” Sky demanded to know.

“They sent a spy inside the kingdom disguised as a guard. The spy told Bashur of an incident at The Wall and Bashur left alone without thinking twice about it. It wasn't until over an hour later when I caught the Spy in the act and realized Bashur was in danger.” Rotten confessed. “I went out to The Wall myself, but when I got there, all I found was a metal bat and blood on the grass.”

Sky's hands clenched In anger.

“Bashur did not think to have his guards by his side as he went out to investigate? Did you have guards by your side as you went after him!? They could have taken you as well!” Sky then stopped himself. He didn't have the right to speak like that. He shook his head.

“What orders did you leave with the Melon Kingdom?”

“Nobody is to be let in or out and the citizens must be guarded at all times. Paps was left in control, however I made it clear that only the orders that were logical were to be followed from him.” Rotten replied.

Sky sighed. “Alright. Good.”

“We have the spy in custody, however we fear that there could be more.” Rotten continued.

“More?” Sky asked.

“I won't take this lightly, Sky. I highly doubt kidnapping Bashur was all they plan to do. Spys might have been sent to every kingdom.” Rotten answered. “Unless they plan doing something big with Bashur as their prized possession, i'd expect them to be a bit more...more adventurous.”

Sky knew that Rotten was probably right. Squids were smart and creative creatures, as much as The King hated to admit. Notch knows what they planned to do. This is why Sky must to something before too late. Sky turned to Sub, who noticed this and stepped forward for orders. Rotten watched Sky give orders to the young, faceless person. Rotten had never seen him before.

“Sub. I want you to go find out the location of MinecraftUniverse. I need him here for a job.” Sky ordered.

Sub nodded his head and ran off, out the door to the right of the throne. Sky turned to Brice, who had walked up without orders.

“Sky.” Brice kept his voice low. “What are your plans?”

Rotten nodded his head, Sky looking over from Brice to him. “Yes. What do you plan to do?”

Sky took a deep breath. He hesitated before answering, since nothing could really be set in stone seconds after hearing about it.

“Well.” Sky began. “I will have a meeting to decide how to take this. We have options, some better then others.”

“What about Bashur?” Rotten asked.

“We will rescue him. But we must be careful about how we do that, Rotten. We will discuss that in better time.”

“And the spys?” Rotten asked again.

“Our meeting will be privet. We will decide to assume that spys are here and how to go about that.” Sky kept himself calm, realizing Rotten's rushed words. Rotten wanted answers that he wasn't getting.

“Whom shall I call for this meeting?” Brice said, taking the job of creating the meeting. It would be best to have it as soon as possible.

“I....I don't know. Hold off on that. I'll see to it later.” Sky said and Brice backed off.

“Anyway,” Sky spoke to Rotten. “I'll send some of our soldiers to The Melon Kingdom. If you'd like to take part in the meeting, which I hope will be either tonight or tomorrow, it would be my pleasure to allow you to rest here. Your trip back would take hours on a tired horse, and i'm sure you've left someone in charge while you were off.”

“These soldiers you're sending-” Rotten began, but Sky stopped him.

“I will let Brice pick who goes. They will be people Brice know. They will be trust worthy.” Sky said.

Rotten looked down and Sky felt a bit of sympathy for the prince.

“Again. You may rest here. There are guest rooms on the third floor if you are in need of sleep.”

“Thank you.” Rotten dipped his head.

Sky tried to smile, but wasn't very successful. Bashur was in trouble and Rotten was obviously shaken. A young worker noticed the end of their conversation and walked over, bowing to them.

“May I show you all to your rooms?” She asked.

Rotten nodded his head. “Yes please.”

Before walking away, Sky stopped Rotten.

“Don't push yourself too far about this. It'll be fine. I'll come up to see you when i've got information. Alright?”

Rotten sighed and didn't reply. He turned away, following the young worker as he and the two men with him were escorted to their rooms on the third floor. Sky turned to Brice, who didn't say anything. It took three weeks for The Squids to attack back, and they've kidnapped not only a prince, but a friend. Sky was bothered, but this whole war has been on his nerves ever since it started. And that was years ago. Sky began to space out, trapping inside by his thoughts. It was only when someone tapped him on the shoulder, he came back into reality.

“Y-yes?” Sky turned around to see Tyler. “Oh.”

“H-”

“You're up early today.” Sky said, not letting the boy speak.

“Yeah, about that.” Tyler said. “Janet woke me up saying something about horses running by. She got all worried about us being attacked so she sacrificed me by telling me to investigate. She won't let me back inside the house without proof that everything is alright. Which makes me believe she only wanted the house to herself. And Kyle and Shelby are still sleeping. So I came here.”

Sky could tell by the look on Tyler's face that he was still pretty sleepy. He also didn't sound as excited.

“Oh, and I ran into Seto while walking in. He asked me to ask you to stop by his office. He seemed off.” Tyler added.

Sky wanted to snicker at the poor teen's sleep deprivation. He had probably stayed up late last night. But Sky didn't snicker. He watched Tyler yawn.

“Thank you. And we're not being attacked. Something did happen, but I'll wait until you're more awake.” Sky crossed his arms. “I'm not sure if there is another guest bedroom open, so you can go sleep in Sub's room. I'm sure he wouldn't mind.”

“Aww thanks maan.” Tyler said, trying to stop himself from yawning yet again.

“Here.” Brice walked over. “I'll show you to his room.”

“Okay.” Tyler agreed.

“Sky, you can now go see what Seto wants. Okay?” Brice looked at the King.

“Thank you.” Sky smiled partly.

“Anytime.”

Brice then took Tyler off, leading the poor boy towards the third floor were Sub's room was. Sky honestly didn't know what Sub would actually think about finding his friend in his room, but he'd find out later. Besides, Tyler wanted to sleep not steal everything. Sky turned his head and looked around the room. It was now quiet again. The King then turned off, walking out the right door, heading over to Seto's office.

-...-

Seto sat in his office, which was a room slightly larger then Deadlox's room, that had a collection of glowing magical items on shelves. He waited patently for The King to arrive, hoping the teen he'd seen around here from time to time had delivered his message. Playing with his thumbs, the mage stared into space. He didn't know how much time had passed, but at one moment, he heard a knock at his door. He shook his head, getting up to answer it.

“Seto.” The King greeted him at the door.

“Sky.”

Seto opened the door more for the King, stepping aside to let him in. Once Sky was inside, the mage quietly closed the door. Seto sat back in the chair, as he felt uncomfortable standing up.

“I was told you needed to speak to me.” Sky said, breaking the silence.

“Yes. I..I was planing to tell you this yesterday, but you were busy with other things when I tried to get to you.” Seto said.

“Oh...”

“Anyway, This is about my position as the royal mage.” Seto looked up at The King. “Something is happening to my spell casting ability and I don't know what it is. I'm not sick, i'm not dying. Yet, it seems, my powers have slowly been losing their touch.”

“So...you think that within time, you might need to step down?” Sky asked.

“I spoke to Deadlox the other day. I asked him to start practicing general magic.” Seto answered. “Even if he isn't a student of mine, he's the closest person here who could take my position if needed.”

“What did he say?”

“He seemed surprised...but he said he'd work on it.” Seto continued. “I trust him. I know he might not fully like the idea of taking my place, but there is no other choice.”

“I don't suppose you'd be able to train anybody with such a problem, huh?”

Seto shook his head. “No. Without knowing for sure what I can do and for how long I can do it, their training would never be complete.”

"But, I might be able to fix this." Seto continued. "I don't know where the sorce to it is, but there is a possiblity i could find it and stop it. Lets not get our hopes up though."

Sky looked down at his feet. Forcing a job onto somebody was not what he liked to do, but ever since the day Deadlox gave up his royalty, he'd been doing nothing but work on magic. He spent more time then he should inside. Giving him the job of Royal Mage would be good and bad for him.

“Anway, Seto.” Sky looked at the mage. “We received news today. The squids have finally done something.”

Seto looked unsurprised. He tilted his head. “What have they done?”

“They've kidnapped Prince Bashur. They found a spy in The Melon Kingdom and Prince Rotten fears that there may be more spys somewhere in The Sky Army territory.”

Seto leaned back in his chair. “I'm not surprised.”

“I've sent for MinecraftUniverse. I'm gonna send word to the other kingdoms. Bacca Forest, North Atlantis, and Pumpkin Caverns.”

“Wouldn't The Pumpkin Kingdom already know? For Prince Rotten-”

“Prince Rotten hasn't been back to his kingdom since Bashur was kidnapped. Whomever he left in charge doesn't know.”

“Oh.”

The conversation didn't drag on and the two stood in silence for a few moments. Sky cleared his throat and began to walk towards the door.

“I've got work to do, so i'll leave you here. If anything happens, please let me know.” Sky said, his hand on the door knob.

“I....I will. Don't worry about it.” Seto replied.

Sky left the room, entering a hallway with one or two others walking around. The light from the windows made Sky finch. It was dark in Seto's room. Blinking a few times, Sky began to walk onward down the hallway. Reaching the end of the hallway, about to turn into the stairwell, Sky saw Sub. Sub's head looked up to the sight of the king, and he ran over to him. Sub handed The King a piece of paper.

“Huh?” Sky took the paper, reading it.

“So he's here? Waiting for me in The Throne Room, right?” Sky asked and Sub nodded his head.

“Thank you.”

Before Sky could run off, Sub grabbed The King's arm and made the adult turn back. Sky stared at the shorter one until he realized Sub was probably staring at him with some sort of death glare. It was difficult to communicate with the masked boy, but there were times when you just knew what Sub was trying to say.

“Oh...yeah, you found Tyler, huh?” Sky chuckled awkwardly. “Sorry about that. I told him he could sleep in your room.”

Sub crossed his arms.

“Look, i'll make it up to you later. Just let the kid sleep.” Sky sighed and turned off.

Sub watched The King disappear down the stairs. Huffing, the young assassin turned to walk back to his room. He was gonna go push Tyler off the bed. Hey, Sub was woken up early because of work and it's only Tyler's fault for staying up so late and letting Janet kick him out. Sub had all the right to do whatever he please to get revenge for the kid stealing his bed,at least he believed.

-...-

Sky walked back inside the Throne Room, seeing General Goldsolace and MinecraftUniverse standing there, talking. When the door shut behind The King, it made a loud sound and the two stopped talking to watch Sky walk over. Brice stepped over a little and Jason dipped his head. Sky dipped his head to the Sky Army messenger.

“Goodmorning Jason.” Sky greeted.

“Goodmorning.” Jason replied. His helmet was not on, and was actually being held in his arms.

“I'm sure you already know I have a message for you to send out.” Sky said.

“I heard it was an urgent one. I got here as fast as I could.” Jason replied.

Jason was the Sky Army's messenger, and was the only citizen in all of the kingdoms whom was able to fly with the power of jet-packs. He could travel from kingdom to kingdom in a matter of minutes, and with a complex system created by the kingdoms' mages, Jason could be tracked down and given a message to report to others. However, he isn't always easy to contact, which is probably why Rotten had to ride on horse back all the way across the Sky Army territory.

“The Squids have attacked.” Sky said and Jason stood up straight, listening very closely. “Prince Bashur has been kidnapped. Prince Rotten says a spy has been found inside The Melon Kingdom, and we fear there may be more spys spread across all of our kingdoms. I also want you to tell them that I'm arranging a meeting for tomorrow. I would like for them to make it.”

“Is that all?” Jason asked.

Sky paused.

“Tell them to be on high alert.” Sky said. “And this message is to Bacca Forest, Pumpkin Caverns, and North Atlantis.”

Jason saluted, then repeated everything back to The King. “The Squids have attacked, taking Prince Bashur! A spy have been found in the Melon Kingdom and many fear that more spys may be lurking around! Sky the King has planned a meeting tomorrow and hopes that you will be able to take part. Stay on high alert! The Squids may have more in store!”

“Thank you.” Sky said.

“No problem.” Jason smirked.

Placing his helmet back on, Jason turned around and ran out of the room. Brice turned too Sky.

“Sometimes I fear the most for the people who have things nobody else does.” He said.

Sky was confused. “Hm?”

“Jason is the only one in this whole realm that holds the power to fly as fast as he does. There are only two people in this whole realm who control the power of a gun, a weapon far more dangerous then any enchanted sword or bow and arrow. And only ten people in this realm hold the power to control whole kingdoms. It used to be eleven, Sky. The number could drop to nine if we aren't careful with how we take this.”

Sky frowned. “Don't worry yourself, Brice. I won't let the number drop any farther.”

Brice cleared his throat. “Still.”

“I understand.” Sky sighed.

The door to the right of the throne opened, and a familiar voice yelled. The two turned to see Tyler being chased by Sub.

“NO! AHHAHA NOO PLEASE! I'M SORRY, YA BASTARD! STOP IT!”

Tyler screamed as Sub kept trying to punch and Kick him. Brice couldn't help but laugh.

“I WAS KIDDING! I DIDN'T MEAN IT! IT WAS A JOKE! SOMEBODY HELP ME!” Tyler continued to scream.

Sky cracked a grin. “What did you do this time!?”

Tyler tried to answer back between his screams and laughter and beatings, but couldn't. It was after Sub had made the kid give up and sit on the floor, having his arms protect his head, that the assassin gave up and stood there with his arms crossed. Sky and Brice walked over.

“It was our fault he was In your room. I told you that.” Sky sighed.

Sub shook his head and pointed at Tyler.

“What did Tyler do?” Brice asked, still smiling.

Tyler laughed weakly. “I didn't do anything. I was sleeping in his bed and he pushed me out and I hit my head on the side table.”

Sub kicked Tyler in the back.

“OW!” Tyler exclaimed. “Okay! You're a rotten little beast, arn't you Sub!?”

“What did you do?” Brice asked again.

“I was still half asleep so when he got mad at me and pushed me over and laughed off the pain and started making jokes about what just happened and it got to a point where they were all horribly corny and he got sick and tired of me and chased me out of the room. But I was still at it and he started chasing me, all the way to the first floor!” Tyler laughed.

Sky began laughing really hard. Sub was angry over corny jokes?! Sky did understand that Tyler can take them too far, but wow. Then again, Sub was upset about it even before he pushed Tyler off the bed so. Sub was also pretty tired after waking up earlier this morning. But the whole situation was still hilarious.

-...-

It had only taken seconds to flew over The Kingdom of Minecraftia, not even at top speed. Jason looked down at the ground below, flying just above Gizmo Farms. It was a farm ran by a man named Gizzy Gazza. With the sun beating down on him, Jason landed safely down just in front of the farm house. He was thirsty and hoped his friend would give him a drink. Besides, chances are Gizzy hadn't heard the news either. Jason knocked on the door, hearing noise from inside.

“Hold on a second!” He heard the happy voice of Gizzy.

The door opened and Gizzy smiled at the man in the blue space suit.

“Goodmorning Jason!” Gizzy greeted. “How can I help you?”

“Sup. I got some news and I was hoping that maybe you'd be kind enough to spare a man something to drink!” Jason smiled, taking off his helmet.

“Sure thing!” Gizzy let Jason inside and closed the door.

The two walked down the hall and into a kitchen. The kitchen had an island made of quartz, which chair made out of iron with wool padding.

“Looking pretty rich here.” Jason smirked, sitting down at the island, placing his helmet on the island.

“Yeah, but it's just there.” Gizzy looked through his refrigerator and pulled cartons of different drinks out. Walking over to the island, he set them down.

“Welcome to Starblocks! What will it be today!?” Gizzy asked.

Jazon chuckled and grabbed for the carton of milk. Nobody had fresh, creamy milk like Gizzy's farm. Gizzy put the other cartons back and grabbed a glass for Jason, giving it to him so that the man could pour his own glass. Then Gizzy stood at the other side of the island, across from Jason. He leaned against the quartz.

“So!” Gizzy said as Jason drank down half the glass.

“Ah, So news wise!” Jason licked the milk from his lips. “The Squids finally did something.”

Gizzy looked surprised. He shifted where he stood and tilted his head.

“What happened?”

“They kidnapped Prince Bashur.” Jason answered.

“Whhatt? Really!?” Gizzy gasped. “Poor thing!”

“A spy was found in their kingdom. Now Sky fears that more spys are hiding somewhere in the other kingdoms.”

“Seems logical sadly.” Gizzy sighed.

“I really can't stay for long.” Jason drank down more of his glass as he paused. “I've got places to be.”

Gizzy grabbed the milk carton and took it back to the fridge. He turned back to see Jason placing down an empty glass.

“You done with that?” Gizzy asked.

“Yeah.” Jason smiled. “Thanks.”

“No problem!” Gizzy took the cup and placed it over in the sink.

Jason grabbed his helmet and got off the chair.

“You be careful now. See anything strange, you call me.” Jason told Gizzy.

“I might be all alone here but i'm not powerless.” Gizzy said. “I got Kingdom Minecraftia as my neighbor. I got it.”

“Okay.” Jason rolled his eyes. Gizzy could be trusted, even alone with just cows and a farm.

Gizzy and Jason walked back to the front door. Jason put on his helmet and wave to Gizzy.

“Thanks for the drink!” He said before turning the jet pack on and blasting off into the sky, off to The Bacca Kingdom.

“BYE!” Gizzy waved back, watching Jason fly out of sight.

-...-

“My Kings.”

A Bacca Kingdom guard bowed in front of his kings, King Mitch and King Jerome. The two kings noticed behind the guard was MinecraftUniverse, the Sky Army messenger. This meant something big.

“Thank you.” Mitch said to the guard who nodded his head and let Jason set up.

“I come with a message from King Sky.”

“So tell it.” Jerome said, partly worried.

“The Squids have attacked back, kidnapping Prince Bashur of The Melon Kingdom. A spy was found inside the kingdom, and is now under custody. Prince Rotten and King Sky fear that there may be more spys, most likely sent out to all the other kingdoms, even yours.” Jason reported, keeping a straight face.

Jerome and Mitch looked at each other. This was bad. Mitch frowned, looking back at Jason.

“Has Sky reported what he planned to do?” He asked.

“He said he's holding a meeting tomorrow to plan out how to take this. He hopes that you can all make it.” Jason answered.

Mitch sighed, looking back at Jerome. Jerome looked down.

“We shall go.” Jerome said.

“Was there anything else to report?” Mitch asked Jason.

Jason shook his head.

“Thank you.” Mitch sighed.

Jason nodded his head and, without anything else said, was escorted back outside the room, where he could take off and continue to deliver the message.

“Spys in our kingdom?” Jerome frowned at the thought.

Mitch looked around to spot a guard on duty. He walked over to the guard, which was a Bacca in the kingdom's armor. The guard stood tall when the king approached.

“Listen.” Mitch said. “I need everyone on high alert. If anything suspicious happens, report it that moment.”

“Yes sir!”

Mitch honestly wasn't horribly worried. He was more worried about the other kingdoms then his own. Bacca Forest was a kingdom to the left of The Kingdom of Minecraftia, and was a large kingdom located in a deep forest. As much of an ally to the war it was, it wasn't too involved. The only reason they would be a target was so that the Squids could piss off Sky. And sadly, that's probably what the squids want to do. But all this was assuming that spys where in his kingdom, and that it wasn't just a stupid fear. Mitch shook his head.

“You okay?” Jerome walked over, his furry hands behind his back.

Mitch turned to look at the shorter one, cracking a smile.

“Yeah. I'm fine.”
