I sit alone in the dark,
A single light flashes red,
Like blood signalling a shark.
You see this is the part I dread.
Not the garments and thread,
In the store, it's so lonely.
So I keep thinking if only
Everyone could stay forever
Tell me their secrets
And we will sit in the dark together

I want to dream, strut my stuff like a model
But I'm just an object
Reflecting the beauty of others back at them
Clothing rejects,
Sit on the rail in front of me.
They will be worn and I will still be here,
It's a recurring theme...
I've seen it all from birthday cake to phlegm.
And everyone else gets to see the sun and the street,
I wonder what it's like to feel the sun on your feet.
To sway in the wind,
If I break out there I'll be binned.
But I don't care,
What's a few dinks and wear,
When I get to experience the world.
All the package secrets that unfurled,
Last time I moved...

I'm sitting here thinking,
Some mirrors watch people while they are drinking.
Others see one every day,
I see clothes all day.
A dress blooms around a young girl,
Her hair is blond and full of curls,
She laughs at her reflection happily,
"Do you want that one Lily?"
Her mother asks, she nods.
They leave, that's how it goes.

Later she came back in tears,
"Momma's in jail."
I see her fears,
She gives her arms a flail.
And she gets taken by an officer...

I sit here in the dark now,
Remembering all,
Not judging at all.
So much I know,
More people shop for coats in snow.

A jiggle of keys,
A flip of the switch,
And I know I'm on,
Time to pitch,
Sell some more Lee's
Jeans upon the rack.
It's the manager she's back...
