Just Be Annoying Until They Answer You

"Have you ever wondered where you came from?" I ask rather nonchalantly as my blades clash with my sparing partner. Pittoo blinks his ruby red eyes, clearly confused that I would bring something like that up in middle of one of our practices. He shakes his head a second later, quickly composing himself again. He probably just thinks I am trying to distract him. I mean I am, but I'm also serious at the same time. My twin attempts to pull a fast one me by jerking his knee into my gut, however I am aware of his favorite trick and manage to grab his leg, then proceed to flip him over.

"Like, have you ever felt as though there's an entire life that you lived but never experienced?" I further question, stepping down on my opponent's chest and touching the tip of one of my blades to his neck. I won this round.

"You're asking me?" Pittoo spits off to the side, the wiping his fist across his mouth. Clearly frustrated that he lost, I shuffle away to give him some space to push himself to his feet. "I came out of a mirror, end of story."

"How about memories? Do we share any, do you have memories that I don't?" I pester Pittoo as he turns his back to me and stamps his way over to the weapons rack to hang up his staff. When he glares back at me for annoying him, I distract myself to avoid making eye contact by connecting my blades back into their bow form.

"No. I don't." He snaps at me, his fists are clenched and I can tell he's doing his best to hold off from starting our match over again, with maybe a bit more violence. "Isn't that something you should ask your precious goddess? Or literally anyone who's existed more than five years?" I suppose he does have a point, it's been a couple of years since Hades defeat now. While I've been relaxing in Skyworld, Pittoo took a different kind of vacation and traveled, though a lot more restrictive now than what he would have preferred. It's mostly that I'm the reason he doesn't visit often now and just made his residence in Viridi's temple, apparently it's because I'm insufferable but I don't see it. Speaking of the goddess of nature, that's where we hold our sparing matches like today's. He claims Lady Palutena's temple is "too bright that it distracts him."

Sparing in this Autumn grove in the sky is all we really do nowadays, there's not much for angels like us to do when there's no conflict among the gods. Even that's grown towards the boring side, and I'm pretty sure that Pittoo wants to keep going because I've been beating him more as of lately.

"I mean, I've tried talking to Lady Palutena." I finally reply, slinging my bow onto my back. "But whenever I ask, she shuts me out and gets all insecure about it. And that worries me more than anything."

"You've literally killed multiple gods and goddesses and Palutena's feeling are what both you the most?" He replies, dusting off his tunic as he walks back over to me.

"Ever since the Chaos Kin, I've been more... observant? No. Aware of the emotions of those around me. I want stop things like that from happening before they get the chance to start. I know we both don't want to go through that ordeal again." I let out a single laugh, scratching the back of my head. Out of the corner of my eye, I spot Pittoo grumbling to himself as he ruffles his feathers.

"Whatever, what do you me to do about you troubling query?" He taunts.

"Is that a dash of salt I hear?" The voice of a young woman mocks from the side of the courtyard. In sync, the two of us turn towards the source of a girl who could be mistaken for preteen with blond hair in a ponytail, wearing a rose purple dress. Viridi, the goddess of nature.

"Yeah, Pittoo is just upset that I beat him again." I hum happily, earning a glare from my black clad twin.

"How many times do I have to tell you?!" Pi- I mean Dark Pit (Pandora was severely lacking in the naming department), raises his voice and his fists, causing Viridi to reluctantly intervene by holding out her wooden staff between us. Not that she cared who would have won, just that we might step on the wrong leaf in her presence.

"Think that's enough for today..." She trails off as I believe she's trying to make some sort of snide comment about something I did... again... "Though, in all seriousness. OG does bring up a point, no luck on finding a better name for yourself?"

During my shock of the goddess' sincerity, Pittoo eases his shoulders and scratches the back of his head. "Not yet. Nothing seems to fit." He was trying to get a new name? That's news to me, as he always seemed fine with Dark Pit before, it was the nickname Lady Palutena gave him that would tick him off. I use it because it's easier.

Apparently I've been lost in thought long enough for Viridi and the other angel to finish whatever conversation they were having and for her to tap her staff back down beside her. "Alright, what's this query you've been bugging people about?"

I nod briefly, making my way over to the weapons rack, where I left my bag that held onto my post match snacks. "Before we met, Viridi, I had to destroy the Mirror of Truth and that's where Pittoo came from." I watch as my clone roles his eyes at the use of the name again, Viridi seems uninterested from the now common knowledge, and I pull out the mirror shard I found quite a few years ago.

"I found this after I was pulled back to Skyworld and before going after Pittoo." I hold out the piece of glass gently in my palm, capturing the attention of both the goddess and the angel. Viridi cautiously glanced over its ridge, careful to not use the mirror for its intended purpose. I don't think the world could handle two of her. Meanwhile Dark Pit (you get why I call him Pittoo yet?), subtly flinched, taking a step back, yet still looking over with mild interest.

"It doesn't make copies anymore, but will instead answer questions visually. Not that words would have made it better, but the images or scenes given in the answers range from obvious to cryptic. All I wanted to know is what would I be doing now that the war with the underworld is over, and it showed me, but not me. Like a kid version of me, with these other kids I don't know." I explain, earning snickers at my last sentence.

"You sure that's not the current you?" My twin stifles a laugh with Viridi nodding along.

"For your information, I'm actually almost thirty years old in mortal years. And if recall correctly you're only five years old and that's if you want to count your first three years where you were unconscious for most of it." I retort, catching my train of thought before it runs away. "That's besides the point! I've been trying for months to find out whatever the mirror means, but it seems like the more I ask the blurrier the images become. But what bothers me the most, is that every time I try, I'm reminded that there was a time for me when I didn't know Lady Palutena, or least know her as I do today. I know there's something there, but I can't remember any of it."

I've definitely lost Pittoo to my rant, luckily I manage to hold onto Viridi tight enough for her to at least think about what I had to say.

"You not being the pet to Palutena at some point is a new one for me." Maybe I didn't lose him. I mentally shrug at Pittoo's backhanded comment.

"Now I'm no expert on souls, memories or crazy ancient artifacts, but I will admit that your new little toy intrigues me." Viridi mumbles, reaching for the shard, which I hand over without difficultly. "I'll tell you what, I'll look into what I can, and contact Dynoisis, see if he knows anything."

"Tha-" I'm cut off before I can even get my first word out.

"You go ahead and learn what you can from Palutena, and in exchange you'll be spending the next weekend tending to my greenhouse." Viridi demands, tapping her staff on the ground as she turns her back to me. My wings spread out on their own, surrounded by a purple-blue aura. I make sure to quickly snatch up my bag before the power in my feathers lift my feet off the ground.

"Thanks, Viridi!" I smile as my flight path is being controlled by the goddess currently walking away from me.

"Just don't die." Is all I get in response before she enters her temple. I attempt to give a warm goodbye wave to Pittoo just before I'm sent back to Skyworld, but he's already gone inside as I make my way back to the heavens on glowing wings.
