Posting the copyrighted works of others without their legal consent is strictly prohibited, as outlined in our and . As a service provider, we also comply with all applicable provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA").

Our policy is to respond to valid notices of alleged copyright infringement we receive by expeditiously removing or disabling access to the allegedly infringing material.

Repeat infringers - In addition to the above policy, we may, when appropriate and at our discretion, terminate the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe or are charged with infringing the intellectual property rights of others.

A new reporting option has been added to the copyright reporting flow! On iOS (Android release date TBD) you can now report a Wattpad story that you believe is infringing on an existing Wattpad story directly to the user you believe is the original copyright holder. This does not generate a report to the Wattpad Copyright Team, but will instead send an automated private message to the Wattpad user that provides them with all the information they need, including the link to the allegedly infringing story, to learn more about copyright and report it. Don't worry, it's anonymous so the user won't know who brought it to their attention.

As the Wattpad writer who receives this alert through private message, you will be given a link to the allegedly infringing story for you to review and determine whether or not you believe it is an infringement of your original work. You will also be provided with links to our copyright articles so you can learn about copyright on Wattpad and how to submit a DMCA takedown request if you choose to take that route.

If you don't want to submit a DMCA takedown request right away, you don't have to! You can always contact the writer who has the alleged infringement of your work and explain why you believe their work is infringing on yours and politely ask them to remove it. If that doesn't work, please submit a takedown request if you still believe it is an infringement!

If someone has posted your original Wattpad story or image onto another website you are entitled to submit a copyright report. Wattpad cannot report on your behalf, so here is some information on how to do it yourself.

Who should I contact?

On the homepage of the website where your story has been copied, look for tabs such as Support, Help, Contact Us or DMCA. These links can sometimes be found at the very top or very bottom of the web page. Depending on the size and popularity of the website, you may have to fill out an online form or send an email to the website's support staff.

Tip: If you are still unable to find the right contact information, try searching for "[website name] report copyright" through your preferred search engine.

What information should I include?

If the website requires you to fill out a form, be sure to include all the information that is being requested. Alternatively, if you have to contact the web administrators through email, include the following information:
