PROLOGUE:
WELCOME TO NEW YORK

ROISIN BYRNE HUFFED LOUDLY AS she sat impatiently on the quinjet waiting for Skye. She didn't like waiting, it made her nervous as she tugged the sleeves of her shirt down to her wrist, covering the scars that marred her body.

"Rose!"

Roisin turned to see a brunette young woman approach her with a small smile.

"What's going on Skye? Did you figure it out?" Skye was an older mentor to Roisin, someone the young girl looked up to after all the tragedy she had endured.

"You remember Chuck, he'll be your guardian. You both will be living in Queens."

"Are you sure I'll blend in?" The young blonde chewed her lip nervously, wincing as the cracked lips began to bleed again. It was Roisin's nervous habit that she couldn't break. She knew that with her scar, and the dorky Chuck, she wasn't sure if that'll be quiet enough to keep off of HYDRA's radar. "Especially in a big city?"

"Of course," Skye told the young teen with a smile. She was hesitant to go in depth. She couldn't promise her anything.

"Especially in a big city."

ROISIN STARED AT THE EMPTY APARTMENT, UNAMUSED. Sure, she wasn't expecting to live in luxury, but this was pretty... crappy. The few boxes that the two had brought were few– maybe 3 boxes each and there was 2 others full of kitchen and laundry supplies.

"So," Chuck said slowly, dropping a box to the ground of their new apartment, rubbing his hands together in excitement. "Ready to be family?"

Roisin rolled her eyes but smiled nonetheless. She was happy Chuck was her protector. She knew that he didn't look like one under his nerd layer, but he was the perfect undercover protection.

Who would've guessed he was good with a gun and hand-to-hand combat? Chuck was also useful, especially with Roisin's powers, she needed to have someone to vent to– Chuck was a perfect therapist.

"Okay so this is your room...." Chuck opened the door to the right of the kitchen, revealing a bedroom with two windows leading to a fire escape, perfect.

Not like Roisin was going to do anything bad but.....

"And I know what you're thinking," Chuck told the girl sternly, as if he was her real father. "That fire escape isn't for you to sneak out at night to party but for emergencies if we're found."

"I get that," Roisin told the older agent. "Don't worry, I'm going to make sure I don't stick out– I won't have friends."

"That's not what I mean..." Chuck groaned. "You can have friends just no social media or being the popular one at school, okay?"

"I get it," Roisin told Chuck with a wry smile. "Can I start unpacking?"

"Yeah, I'll start on the kitchen and later I'll order some Chinese food, okay? To prepare you for your first day of school!"

"Sounds perfect, Chuck."

Maybe, everything would be fine here after all.
