"Alec?" Zach called as he climbed up the stairs. His wolf, that strangely hadn't disappeared yet, led the way sniffing the air and climbing up a few stairs ahead of him. He sent Skyler to look downstairs but when he came back he knew Alec had to be "hiding" up stairs.

"Alec?" He called once more. Zach pushed open his white wooden door with the "keep out" sign his twelve year old self put on to see nothing but his normal semi messy room. He was about to go to the next room when his wolf pushed ahead of him and went around his bed and barked. Sheepishly Alec crawled into view and stood up.

"Hi." His voice was shaky with fear and embarrassment.

"Why'd you run?" Zach asked curiously.

"I-"

"Hey did you find him y- oh hello." Skyler interrupted.

"I don't want to talk about it." He simply said turned around, no longer wanting to face the two boys.

"You don't have to if you don't want to. You can stay here by the way, since you have nowhere else to go." Zach offered.

"Thanks.."

"Do want to talk about something else though, you seemed pretty excited in explaining my wolf." Zach said, trying to make Alec feel better.

"Ok."

"I'm going to go Zach. You don't really need me around if you going to talk about magic stuff." Skyler said as he turned around, about to walk to the door.

"You should stay, he said you might have powers too."

"You and I both know he's just trying to make me feel better. I'm not special, and I'll never be. It'll be funny don't you think, the unpopular kid has powers." He scoffed. "Yeah right. Only in dreams. Everyone but me gets everything. I excepted you to know that, after all we were the same before this happened. I'm not being ungrateful I'm just saying power changes people, one day you'll wake up and ask yourself why you're friends with a loser like me." He walked out the door, the front door shutting loudly as he left Zach's house.

"If he does have a spirit it won't be all white like yours. That kid's got issues."

Zach turned around with an annoyed look on his face. "Excuse me? What gives the right to judge my friend. If you got an annoying comment keep it to yourself." He walked out of the room fed up with his new friend and worried about his old one.

...

Throughout his life animals had always seemed to calm him down when he was upset. Maybe it was because they could never judge him or the fact that they'd always be there. It started when his dad died. Zach depended on him, but when he was gone and their dog was given back because he no longer served a purpose he used Chase as his "emotional support". He was always there, he was one of the only things that he could rely on.

Of course he had his brother Anthony but they weren't as close as they could be because of Zach. He didn't want to let himself get close to anyone after what happened to his dad. He was scared that he would get hurt if he got close to Anthony, that when he finally did that his brother would disappear too. He knew it was a stupid and horrible way to see the world, but that was how he felt. He he blamed that on his dad dying.

Of course he didn't hate his dad for that it was just a way to shift the blame. If he blamed himself he just wouldn't be able to handle that. He wouldn't be able to live with the fact that he was the reason couldn't even trust his own brother. He didn't trust anyone but Skyler helped him with that. He help Zach to realize that it was okay to have these trust issues and by doing so he was able to overcome them.

Zach didn't know what to do. He was never someone who know how to handle these things. He wanted for Skyler to be happy but he didn't know how he could make him feel accepted. He also wanted to tell Alec off and say something mean but he didn't want to loose him as a friend because he really wanted to help. Zach just felt like someone just put the weight of the world on his shoulders and that made him frustrated and upset. He wanted to help he just didn't know how.

So he just sat on his couch and petted his mysterious white wolf while trying to keep all his bad thoughts away.

"What's your name?" He whispered to no one at all. It had only occurred to him that he should give her a name, well if she didn't already have one. He unstrapped his watch from his wrist and turned it over.

"Dawn." He read. He remembered seeing the words earlier that day after she saved him. "That's your name isn't. Dawn." He said, but louder it again and she looked at him. A smile began to spread across his face because that gave him hope. Hope that he was on his way to getting to know the mysterious creature that would soon be fighting at his side to make the world a better place. And Zach wanted nothing more to help people after feeling like he was useless his entire life.
