He woke up to darkness. Nothing was more clear than the silence that seem to add to his slight fear. He didn't know why but it began to build within him, like he knew something was wrong.

He sat up, the rough blanket brushing his skin as he did so. He thought nothing of it and stood up but immediately pulled back.

The ground was cold and hard. Tile.

His room, his house was carpeted. There was tile only in the bathroom. This only made his fear grow immensely.

"Where am I?" He whispered aloud to no one at all. Fear lacing each one of his words. He knew he didn't want to know and yet curiosity got the best of him. Once again he stood up, his arms were outstretched as he felt around the room. Well tried anyway.

"A light switch might come in handy." Said a voice in the darkness. Skyler jumped back and raised his fists, ready to defend himself. He knew he didn't look very threatening but it was better than looking pathetic.

"Put your hands down, they won't do much damage, well not in that state that is."

"Who are you? And what do you mean "in that state"?"

He heard a faint click and the room lit up. It was bright until he heard a crack and the room went dim. Even in the dim lighting he could see a figure peering at him from the corner of the room.

"Who are you?" Skyler repeated.

"You're here cause you're special," The stranger began, ignoring Skyler's question, "You're not like the others here. You have greater potential. You're, well, like me."

"I don't understand..." He started.

The stranger stepped out of of his shadowy corner and into the dim light. His skin was pale and yet his hair was black as night. He wore a black V-neck and jeans with gray sneakers. He looked about around Skyler's age, maybe two or three years older.  His golden brown eyes pierced through the slight darkness, inspiring a sort of timidness in Skyler that made him take a small step back.

"Come." He said and motioned him to come forward

Skyler regained some of his confidence and remained where he was standing, but did not dare to stare into the stranger's golden eyes that began to lose their patience.

"Skyler."

His head shot up in surprise.

"How do you know my name?"

"Do you want to stay in this dark room?" He said flatly.

As weird as the stranger was, Skyler would rather take his chances with him  than stay in a dark room for who knows how long. So hesitantly he stepped closer, fearful yet curious. He wanted to know where he was but he knew he probably wasn't going like the answer.
He had to escape.

The older teen opened a steel door in the back Skyler didn't notice was there and lead him through it into a hall of gray walls and dim, flickering, hanging lights  that added a dismal and mysterious tone to the mood.

"You'll get your own room unlike the others who stay in the barracks so consider yourself lucky. You'll be let out into a yard where everyone goes open, I'm sure you'll make friends quickly." He began to explain and gave Skyler a fake smile. "There also a cafeteria where you'll eat. Wow explaining is boring, i see why they didn't care if I did it. You'll learn how things go as days pass."

"Days pass. How long do you think you'll be keeping me here?" Skyler said, finally getting the courage to say something.

"Don't ask questions you don't want to know the answer to..." the stranger turned around to face him. And Skyler could have sworn his eyes turned black as he growled the words.

"Now come on" he commanded and turned around and continued walking ahead of him.

Without thinking Skyler took off in the opposite direction, sprinting fast, not daring to look back as the stranger weirdly said nothing. Skyler didn't know this but the teen just stood smiling thinking to himself, "he just might be the one."

Suddenly a door appeared at the end of the hallway and Skyler ran impossibly faster now that escaped was so close. He grabbed the cold metal handle and yanked it open.

He was outside. There were trees stretched high up to touch the golden orb that shined down upon all the creatures of the world. There were kids about his age and younger all wearing gray uniforms playing and talking outside nearby but far enough not to notice him. He only took a second to take in his new surroundings before he once again ran. He ran to the tall chain link fence that seemed to surround the entire facility. it must've been at least 15 feet tall if not taller making Skyler hesitate a bit. He jumped up, grabbing the fence in his hand and scrambled to get his feet to find a hold and began to climb.

Skyler turned his head quickly but didn't dare stop climbing as he heard a low growl. All the kids stoped talking and watched the door. It burst open and out ran a huge black wolf.

It wasn't until then did he realize how big a wolf  could be. Alec was only the size of a slightly bigger than average German Shepherd. It growled and barked at him. Skyler didn't even need to turn around to know it was directed at him.

It jumped up and grabbed a fearful Skyler by the back of collar of his shirt. The wolf placed his back paws on the fence, using it to help him pull Skyler off the fence who tried to hold on. Finally he fell and landed on his back with a heavy thud.

He groaned in pain but was cut off by the growling creature stalking towards him.

"That's enough."

The wolf stopped in its tracks but still growled at Skyler.

He knew the stranger was behind him. He knew he was in trouble. He knew it was stupid to attempt an escape.

Out of the corner of his eye he could see the other kids watching them. He could hear them whispering "Jace" and "2-A" with fear.

"What are you all looking at?" Jace growled at them and they ran to the other side of the yard.

"Skyler stand up, let's go."
