One day in August a little girl named Michelle was walking down along the edge of Moonlight River. She was singing a song. Her eyes were cold and dark as she sang, for the song reminded her of her late brother who was her only sibling. She misses him dearly and in his remembrance she sings with eyes full of tears. The river is the only place that she can go to feel truly close to him. They used to come down to the river to talk about life and tell stories of the day. But now that he is gone all she ever does is sing and weep at the thought of him picking her up and swirling her around like he used to. Just the mere thought of him holding her hand in his brings her to tears. Her only dream is for him to wisp her away in his hands and carry her over to the river, singing in harmony, holding hands, enjoying each others company once again. She wishes to see him one last time before she has to go away with her father and mother, away from the memories that they once shared, away from the past and on to the future. She stops at the sudden scream of help coming from her mothers lips, she knows what has happened. For years now her father has been ill, there was no sign of hope for him, she knew what was coming and she thought nothing of it. Losing her father was nothing in her eyes, for her father was mean and cruel and cared nothing for her well being. Her brother was different. He would never let her be sad, for he would pick her up in his arms and carry her down to the river and whistle the tune of the song that only they knew. As soon as he would whistle, she would sing. Her brother would ask her who was mean to her the following day. She would tell him. He would go tell there parents. He cared only for her well being. Nothing else. Then the horrid day came when a car hustled down the street, not looking where they were going, and that was it. The whole thing was a blur for poor Michelle. After that nothing seemed right to her any more, everything seemed wrong.
