The music was playing as it did every night but from where? It floated to me along with an angelic voice. Each night I had hoped to get a glimpse of this angel but the darkness always hid her from me.

Tonight I was determined to discover its source. The moon was rising, tonight it would be at its fullest. I had a plan. I couldn't wait to hear that melody again. It called out to me and I smiled. The rhythm uplifted me, giving my tired aching feet wings to carry on. I knew the song by heart.

I let the music guide me. She began to sing. I must be getting closer. The music reverberated up and down the deserted alleyways. I picked up speed and then I stopped. Her voice drifted down to me from above, right above me. I looked up at the fire escape. I took a moment to listen and absorb the beauty of her words.

It was a song about the moon at night, bathing her in light, holding her in its embrace, gently caressing her face. I began to hum along and then at the refrain I figured it was now or never and joined in.

I felt bereft when the music came to an abrupt halt. "No, no don't stop!"

I panicked.

Did she leave? Did she go in? As I looked up I suddenly saw a sweet face leaning over staring down at me.

"Hello!?" I gave a quick wave and tried not to feel so lame.

The face broke into a beautiful smile.

"Hello!"

She answered. That's progress, isn't it?

"Was that you playing the guitar?"

"That depends," she leaned over a little further and her dark hair fell over her shoulder. She looked up and down the alley. "Was that you singing just now?"

A nervous laugh escaped my lips. "Umm...yes."

"Then that would be me." She confirmed my answer, my prayers, I found her but now what?

"Your song... it's beautiful."

"Thank you. I wrote it myself, which begs the question, how do you know it?"

"Your voice has been carrying me home these last few nights."

"It's a serenade for the moon, I can only sing it at night. I didn't realize I had an audience?"

"More of a fan than an audience."

"And the difference is?" she asked, squinting at me. I realized she may not be able to see me and stepped back into the moon's light to afford her a better view. Hoping she liked what she saw.

"Appreciation."

"Well, then in that case..." She slung her guitar over her shoulder and climbed down the fire escape to the balcony right above me. She stomped the on the ladder to lower it down and grinned.

"you have a fan also. Care to make it a duet?"

I was up that ladder in a flash. We were now, face to face. "I'd love nothing more except perhaps a chance to get to know you?"

"The moon led you to me. How can I possibly say, no?"
