Stella climbed through the open window and landed noiselessly on the smooth wooden floor. It felt cool on her warm toes. Outside the sun shone and birds chirped. A summer breeze had followed her in and continued to rustle the curtains behind her. She appeared to be in a bedroom and the bed lay invitingly half made, but she wasn't tired. No one appeared to be home so she boldly strolled around the small bungalow, examining objects and noticing the various smells of strangers. Hungry as always, she entered the kitchen. She glanced briefly at a bowl with browning bananas, eyeballed a crust of toast leftover from someone's breakfast alongside an empty teacup. She smelled the dregs of cold coffee at the bottom, but decided against drinking it.

Then she spied it. In the corner of the counter, upon a delicate porcelain tray, lay an unwrapped stick of butter. She gingerly sniffed it, and it seemed fresh. With the tip of her delicate tongue, she licked a corner. The creaminess melted on her taste buds making her salivate heavily. She licked the divine flavor again and again before finally taking a small bite. Before she realized what she had done, she had finished the whole stick. Her stomach felt marvelously sated from its richness.

Now sleep threatened to overwhelm her and she made her way back to the bedroom. She leapt up on the bed and made straight for the pillow, but a small black object at the edge of the bed caught her eye. An empty computer bag. She nudged her nose into it, sniffing, and then she crawled in. Tucking her nose into her paws and wrapping her tail tightly around her body, she moulded herself into a tight ball of fur. The birds outside continued to sing, children could be heard in the distance playing, the curtains flapped in the wind, but Stella immediately fell into a deep sleep.

Three hours later Tony returned home from work bone tired with plans to make popcorn before kicking back and watching a movie. He entered his bedroom, stripped off his suit and tie, and tossed them on the bed. Only then did he notice the bulge in his computer bag. Stella remained fast asleep.

"Doggone it, you stupid animal," grumbled Tony grabbing Stella by the scruff of her neck. "I wish your owners kept their pet inside." Stella resisted removal from his computer bag, digging her claws into the lining. Finally he freed her and held the fat floppy cat at eye's level. "Did you eat my butter again too?"
