This one-shot is based on a crazy dream I have had at least twice.  I am not sure why or how I even dreamt this anyways.

Ladybug stood by in anticipation of Chat's arrival. She could not wait to speak to him.

Chat Noir raced to meet his lady. He loved her with all his heart rather she believed him or not.

As Chat approached her, he noticed something was off about her. He knew it was worse than he thought. He arrived late, and she appeared to be rather angry with him.

"M'lady, try to calm down. We are a team, remember?"

"I afraid it is too late for all that now."

Chat felt himself tremble when it dawned on him that Ladybug did not hold the usual lucky charm in her hand. It seemed she was ready for a battle stance, but it was with him.

"Ladybug, it is me. I am your partner and boyfriend."

As Chat tried to reason with her, Ladybug pinned him to the ground.  She pulled out the weapon and laughed. As she was about to plug the enormous spike into his chest, she scoffed, "Now, Chanton, you are about to die. Any last words?"

"Yes, as a matter of fact. Was there ever a time you loved me?"

Ladybug snapped out of it as his words. She knew she loved him. She wept as she spoke.  "Chat, I am so sorry. I do not know what came over me.  Forgive me."

Chat smiled as she stuck the spike into the ground.  He held her close and kissed her.

Someone sneaked up behind them. He was none too happy that Ladybug had failed at the mission to destroy Chat while she had a chance and to bring him the miraculous along with the one she always wore herself. He should have known better to try to get an immature to do the job himself.

He sneered as he crept up on the two together in a lover's embrace. He pulled out a dagger and plugged it into the back of the spotted heroine.  He watched as she lost blood, and her breaths got slower and slower. He hides aways off to see what took place.

"No, Bugaboo!  Ladybug, my  Princess,  do not do this to me, to us!"

"Do not leave me. I won't let you. You hear."

Ladybug coughed up blood and sat up despite all the agony she was in at the time.

Chat shook his head in horror at the scene before him. The beloved love of his life was dying, and there was nothing he could do to help her.  He watched in sorrow as she cleansed her own akuma, and threw the spike into the air, and called out "Miraculous Ladybug!"

All the damage was fixed, except for one thing: the damage done to her by their greatest enemy, Hawkmoth.

Ladybug was too weak to move. She collapsed in Chat's arms as she whispered, "Chat, Adrien, take care of Tikki for me.  See to it, Alya is alright."

"No, you are going to be just fine."

Only she was not fine.  Ladybug's eyes closed, and Chat never got to see those lovely bluebell eyes look in his direction ever again.

Two days later, three friends stood close by as the funeral for Marinette Dupain-Cheng, also known as Ladybug, came to a close.  Nino Lahiffe, Alya Cesaire, and Adrien Agreste were all to sad to say a word.

Rose dropped a few flowers on top of the casket and wept. She was comforted by her boyfriend, Max.

Sabrina said a few words, then turned to Miles.  She was glad he moved from New York to Paris to be together without such a long-distance relationship.

Chole sobbed at how horrible she had treated Marinette over the years. She never knew the girl who was her greatest enemy was also the hero she looked up known as Ladybug.

" I am one of your greatest fans. I am sorry, I was not nicer to you, Marinette."

A week went past, and Adrien arrived at the graveside all alone.

He never noticed  Nino and Alya's approach because he was caught up in his grief.

Each night, after Marinette's passing, it was said that Chat was seen on patrol, despite Hawkmoth's defeat. It was clear by the fact he rarely smiled anymore that he was still in shock over the last time he saw her. It was that One Fatal Day that made all the difference in the world.

    the end...

Not all stories have their happy endings.
