Sonnet 57: Fair Youth
(Guilt 6)

Cast out of heaven, you and I do share
The kindred strain that clamps around the heart;
We drink the vial of slander and despair;
We trod the steps of Dante at the start
Of a foul journey through the subtle nightmare
That is our lives. Our paths may never cross
Again as we depart from this affair,
But in our heart of hearts, we share the loss,
I by the slander of my former station,
You by the solitude of sympathy;
So linked by this bizarre association,
We bow our heads in like humility.
      We may not share a brother or a mother,
      But for that fleeting spell, we had each other.

(To be continued...)
