The First Game

I walked down into the locker room. We changed in silence, each lost in our own thoughts. We rode our carpets out. We were playing against the Greys. I sighed. The kids on their team were so big. Even their first year was big. I looked closely at him and sighed again. Derek Bardus. Knowing him, I would get knocked to the ground in the first thirty seconds. We lined up at the start. On the blow of a whistle, we all surged forward. I heard Marcia's voice with the commentary.

"And they're off! Pretty exciting game we have today, eh? First of the year!"

I saw a small cave that was too small for even Bardus to fit into. On a hunch, I flattened myself against the carpet and raced forward. I found a lot of things hidden in there. I heard the sickening crunch of bones on rock as someone failed to get in here properly. I put them on my carpet and zoomed out. I went into a cave and grabbed a coin from the corner. I heard a horn counting down. It was on ten. I flew out and grabbed a golden cup out of one last cave and went out as the horn hit one.

"Game over! Time to count up the items!" Marcia called. I dumped my items on the Blue pile. The referee cane and counted ours. Seventy-three. He went to count the Grey team's items. Seventy-one.

"And the Blue team wins the first match of the season!" Marcia cheered. We all flew to the ground and high-fived each other. We went to the showers and then changed into regular clothes. I heard people talking about a party in the Living Room. I grinned and went there. There was a party with every Blue student. I went to the food and grabbed a cupcake.

"Great game! How many did you collect?" Marcia asked.

"Thirty-seven," I told her. She grinned. We went and enjoued the party, then went down to dinner.
