I truly feel for Jack and Ennis. It is an awful situation and I wish that the situation could have been different.

However I couldn't get over how toxic they were to each other and everyone else around them.

I felt the worst for Alma and her children. Ennis ended up being a terrible husband and a terrible father. Alma seemed very sweet and she deserved so much better.

And Jack expecting Ennis to just quit his job and ditch his kids constantly to go spend time with him.

It was an awful situation for everyone involved.

I tried to see this as a heartfelt romance but it was just so toxic. I wish that the world had been more understanding at the time so they could've been together, rather than being so destructive.

If that had lived in a different place, in a different time they could've been accepted. It was so frustrating to watch.

What happened to Jack was awful and I was so shocked. However I didn't cry like everyone said I would when I watched this.

I feel as though Jack's parents suspected their relationship but don't approve. They definitely resent Ennis for the entire situation.
