I started reading this book just before the movie was announced. I guess my timing was perfect. I loved the book, even though it was a little slow. I felt like I related to Kya, especially to her interest in wildlife (and abandonment issues).

The movie was beautifully executed. The casting for Tate and Chase was utterly perfect. I wasn't sold on the casting choice for Kya at first, but in the end I think Daisy did an excellent job.

The cinematography was fantastic. Those camera men and women deserve a pat on the back for that. Gorgeous.

It stayed surprisingly true to the book. I noticed no major differences. Certainly nothing that bothered me, and I'm typically picky about those things.

The only thing that did bother me was how clean Kya was. Clean clothes, hair, makeup. Kya is a raggedy marsh girl, as mean as that sounds. She spends her time in the swamps, but she only looks it when she's a child. That's the one thing I would change.
