I'm A Nursing Grad

Do you think just like
Every other twenty year old,
I don't wish to dress well,
Wear my hair in a flair,
And keep my nails long,
And painted and wear mascara.

But I realise eventually
As I've always had,
That I'm a nursing grad.

Do you think just like,
Every other twenty year old,
I don't wish to ogle at men,
Flirt in college,
Or socialise, go out on dates,
Or just hang out over coffee?

But I realise eventually
As I've always had,
That I'm a nursing grad.

Do you think just like,
Every other twenty year old,
I don't wish to gossip at the canteen,
And live the 'college' life,
With dreams and passions,
Unending new never experienced stuff.

But I realise eventually
As I've always had,
That I'm a nursing grad.

Yes we have unhealthy work schedule,
We look all haggard,
In the same old dirty uniform,
And we don't go out to party much,
Or be the eye candy,
Dress fancy, style sassy, or live snazzy.
Yes we have midnight snacks,
Dark spots and uncared skin,
And yes we are boring and half asleep
But we are what we are.

We stand still in the face of blood,
And experience death with just a nod.
Our hands may not be soft to touch
But the confidence that touch can give,
Isn't what is measured in money.
I may not wear mascara but my eyes,
Shine with genuiness and dedication.
And those dark spots are just the marks,
That we work, we work repeatedly.
I've given up my social life,
Just to learn things, to help you,
So that someday when you need me,
I can save a life then and,

Nobody...
I repeat nobody
Who hasn't walked in our shoes,
Will have experienced what we had,
Because I'm a nursing grad.

A/N Sorry for this seeming rant. It is just that I was wondering about how much we miss out on life being a nursing grad and yet... We're strong.
