I'm Not A Hero Enough

Hey, I'm —
Well, never mind friend!
Because you don't know me,
You must've seen me though, someday?
Maybe as an article in a newspaper somewhere.

Outright let me tell you I'm not a hero,
I mean not like the ones you see on the silver screen.
I don't do stunts, maybe some small ambushes sometimes,
Aah...Who cares!

I'm just another army man.
An insignificant name I'm afraid
But I have a very small request.

You can very well sit on your couches and bay for blood.
But please don't ask for war at the slightest insult.
I don't blame you, it's your patriotism to the core,
But we rather prefer to show it in a way really quiet,
Maybe guard the borders against invasion at night?

I'm afraid I'm not a hero enough.
Cause the clarion call of war may as well be my death knell.
Well, when my body arrives in a coffin,
Wreathed and wrapped in white,
Don't narrate tales to my wife of  how brave I was in war,
Instead stay by her side and promise your support.

The skies maybe sparkling with celebratory fireworks.
Just ensure that my mother isn't weeping in the lambent lights.
Because for them I couldn't
Be a hero enough to return home safe.

When my daughter's tenuous footsteps sound at your threshold.
Please hold her close enough for her to feel loved,
She may ask you what happened to her dad.
Don't just brush her off by saying I became a star.
She's brave enough to know and be proud that,
Hundreds of people just like her dad are standing guard,
So the rest of the nation can sleep in peace.

We're really not a hero enough for you maybe,
But for those familiar faces,
We're their superman, however unsung.
