Eva stood near the door anxiously. Her toes were tapping against the floor, sometimes she was glancing at the clock. There it was again, the cycle. Every few minutes, she glances at the clock, it would say that only a minute has passed which drove Eva crazy. It was like a nightmare that had a time limit but never seemed to end.
Finally, Ace stepped out the door, sighing in relief. His heart was racing from the intensity of the meeting and the fear of messing it up.
Eva smiled widely once she saw him. Turning to him, she asked, "How did it go?"
Ace laughed nervously, thinking of a way to say it to her. "Weeeeellllllll, let's just say a ton of stuff came up."
Eva rolled her eyes and grabbed the rest of her stuff. As she was packing, a familiar lady passed by, eyeing them. Ace was helping Eva pack up, though they were coworkers, they genuinely felt close to one another.
"Alright, I think that's it. Thanks," Eva grinned, seeing him nod happily. Just as they were about to leave, the lady walked up to them, waving a hand. "Eva!"
Eva recognized that voice, almost sighing out loud as she turned around. "Hello Katherine,"
"Eva, it's so wonderful to see you! I heard there was an intern," Kath turned to Ace, who eyed her and felt a brick smack him in the face. He started to feel tense, secretly gripping onto Eva's coat to tell her to immediately leave. Eva got the sign.
"Hello Ace," she smirked, ruffling his hair. She laughed. "You always forget to groom your hair neatly," she stated while Eva's jaw dropped.
"That's because I don't have time to since I'm working with Eva," He replied sternly, trying to put his hair the way it was originally.
"And we're working on a serious project," he added, looking down at her since she was a few inches shorter than him. "Why are you here?" He asked.
"Just some important business with Mr. Ponder. I have asked him if I could write a biography about his life and look deeper into it to make sure there are no bias," Katherine replied, her shoulders rising with confidence. Eva blinked, looking up to see Ace's reaction. He just stood there with a stone face. "Must be nice," he said.
"Indeed it is. How about you, Evie?" Kath smiled at her widely, her back was straight with pride. Though, Eva was slightly crunched down. "I've been testing on this new-"
"Yes, very nice. Another project, eh? You never seem to change. So do you, Ace," she eyed him. Their eyes met but Ace was much more resistant. "So have you."
"Well, I better get going," she adjusted herself, smiling innocently at Ace. She went to kiss his cheek, laying her hand on his shoulder and leaning up only to whisper in his ear. "You truly lost taste in women."
And with that, Katherine left swiftly. Ace and Eva both stared at her as she walked away. But Eva stared at the ground, taking a moment to think about what just happened. Ace looked down at her with a concerned look. But she shook it off and smiled up at him. "So, wanna head to that new buffet?"
Ace looked at her in surprise, smiling back warmly. "Sure, of course. But you better help me sneak some fried shrimps out."
"You got it, Ace-y boy," she laughed as they started heading out.
