Two young boys stood side by side in a small field. One with spiky black hair and the other with messy white hair.

They were silent, only the sound of chirping birds resounding in their minds.

"Ne, Killua." The boy with spiky hair spoke, his hazel eyes full of a determination so deep the toughest of the tough would be scared, but it also held a type of kindness and trust that was unlike anyone else.

"Hm?" The white-haired boy, Killua, responded, his sharp blue eyes focused on their surroundings, alerting him of even the slightest of moves. He was tense but not as tense as he could be.

"Am I you're friend?" He asked, his voice full with a serious tone.

Killua's concentration broke. "Ehh? What kind of question is that, Gon?" He stated, pointing a finger accusingly.

Gon didn't move, which showed his resolve.

Killua sighed and sat on the grass, laying his  head on the soft ground.

Gon was able to see a small pink color coming onto Killua's cheeks before he rolled over to his side, his back facing Gon.

"Jeez, you're such an idiot." he said, a smile on his face. "Oh course you're my friend."

The sides of Gon's mouth rose, a large grin forming.

"Yay!" he shouted, jumping up in the air in excitement.

He smiled at Killua. "Don't worry, Killua. You're my friend too! My best friend in the entire world!"

The pale boy widened his eyes in embarrassment but a grin crept up his face. He turned over to see Gon literally burning with happiness.

He wanted to stay by his side. He wanted to be with Gon forever. He wanted to be friends with him until the end of time.

"Gon?" he spoke, almost too soft for Gon to hear if he didn't have superhuman senses.

"Yeah?"

Killua took a deep breath before speaking.

"Is it okay if I stay with you?" he asked.

Gon gave him a strange face, as if he had just spoken in another language.

Then, Gon broke into laughter, falling to the ground and rolling around while clutching his stomach.

He laughed so much that small tears almost  fell out of his eyes.

Killua burned with embarrassment. "Oi," he yelled, punching his in the shoulder, "what are you laughing at?!"

Gon eventually cooled down and lay on the grass, a large smile on his face.

Killua was silent, both out of embarrassment and because he wanted to know Gon's answer.

"Of course." The black-haired boy finally answered. "It's totally fine!" he gave his friend another toothy grin that almost brought him to tears.

He couldn't believe that he was able to make such a good friend.

"But why? I'm an assassin. I might leave you behind or kill someone you love. Why would you allow a monster to be at your side?" He asked, anxious to know the reply.

Gon's smile never left his face. "Because I trust you, Killua. And you're my best friend!"

Killua smiled happily and genuinely. Words couldn't express how happy he was.

He lay next to Gon as the two watched the sun set.

Before they knew it, the stars were out, glistening in the darkness, creating light.

Now that Killua thought about it, Gon was like stars. They shine so brightly that they are able to pierce through darkness and touch the souls of everyone around them.

He heard the sound of snoring and looked next to him to see Gon sleeping like a baby.

Killua smiled and closed his eyes.

He knew that they would be able to survive any obstacle.

After all, they were best friends...
