Alison pulled away from him abruptly and shifted her surprised gaze from Drew to me. "I," she said pushing a stray hair flustered, "didn't know you were coming."

"I wanted to surprise you," he said. "I thought you two were just friends."

"We are. I-" Trey tried speaking but Alison quickly cut him off.

"I want to try something new. We wanted to try something knew, but it's not what I want," Alison said pleading with her eyes.

Trey frowned. "You came on to me," he claimed.

"I..." Alison glanced towards him briefly and continued. "This is not what I wanted I'm sorry. I want a friend in you Trey. That's all."

I watched Trey stare at Alison in disbelief. Alison, however, locked her eyes with Drew, the blueness of her eyes deeper than ever before. I watched as she approached Drew warily and continued with her speech.

"I love you," Alison said.

When those words came out of her mouth, I shrank behind Drew. His body tensed up against me and it surprised me to hear the words repeated by him.

"I love you, too."

"You crazy bitch," Trey scowled.

"Excuse me," Drew said facing him.

"That crazy bitch," he continued with any regards to Drew's tone, "is lying. She came on to me and said that same shit--"

"Can you," Drew said sternly, "leave? Please."

For the first time, Trey looked at me and I saw the look in his eyes--desperate, annoyed, hopeful.

"Lauren, you believe me."

Suddenly, all eyes were on me. "I..." I said. "I think you should leave, Trey."

The forestry defining his eyes contorted taken aback then quickly shielded a different emotion: anger.

He said nothing as he collected his things and brushed past Drew. When he was gone, Drew smiled at me as if nothing had happened and took my hand.

"This is Alison."

His warm lips on mine distracted me easily. Around me the walls were white. They enclosed us into a cozy nook secluded from the rest of the hospital. I smiled as his tongue brushed mine and ran my hand through his gold hair carelessly.

I stopped midway when I thought about the earlier event. I let my hand drop from his head and down to his rouge cheek.

"Drew," I said.

"Yeah."

"Today...in the hospital room..." I struggled to find the right words. "Do you love her?"

Drew gazed at me lost then said, "I don't know."

After seeing the look on my face, he continued. "She's apart of my life. We won't ever be what we used to be, but she's here and to take care of her, I realize that I have to say certain things."

"Things you don't mean," I asked.

"Right," he said. "She's sick and she just needs somebody to be with her. She needs to feel loved."

He kept his gaze held on me and I looked towards a far corner, my heart still not at rest.

"How desperate is she?" I asked. "For love?"

"Are you referring to Trey?" he asked softly.

"Yeah," my voice came out hardly audible.

"She's not crazy," Drew said.

"I know but--"

"You can't trust him, Lauren. You can't," Drew said.

"And you can trust Alison?" I spat harshly.

He sighed and said, "It's different."

I nodded.

"You don't have to trust Alison and I don't trust Trey, but I trust you," he said. "I..."

Love you.

"I trust you..." he said again.  "I care about you and I want you to know that you're the only one I want." Drew kissed me on the lips softly which made me smile despite the dormant thought resting in my mind.

I love you. I love you. I love you, Drew. How do I really know you love me?

"I know," I replied softly. He smiled when I did and leaned in to me slowly.

Later, I found myself at my porch. The night air made me hug myself briefly before stepping inside the house.

The atmosphere was calm, I noticed as I traveled deeper into the house. I began removing my blazer and stopped when Will's familiar eyes found mine.

I stopped undressing myself midway and smiled wryly. "You're still up?"

He didn't smile back, however. "I thought I told you to stay away from Drew." His voice came out low.

"I..."

Previously, I thought that he had forgotten about that. I watched him arise from his seat slowly.

"Or," he said, "did I not make myself clear?"

I frowned instantly and harshly replied, "It's not your choice to make," before heading up the stairs.
