They are not as powerful as the REAL Crystal Gem's. But some of the Crystal's will team up with the Artificial's. Every 10 year's, a specific human, either a soldier, mercenary, Navy Seal, or any other professional in any armed group is chosen a certain Artificial Gem to play a role as.
