Water Dragons

I was a water dragon

but I was in human form at the moment.

I had sapphire-colored wings and tail. I had scales on my wrists and on my cheeks. The scales on my cheeks were swirled and glowed like the moon.

I was holding two things that were very dear to me.

A little blue book, and a handful of almonds.

The book was small, I could carry it around no problem, it was only a bit bigger than my hand. The almonds were no problem either, I put them in the pocket of my jacket.

The cover depicted a moonlit night on a beach. The waves were gentle and the moon glowed silver. The stars helped light a path on the beach.

I was with my two closest friends. Indigo was a girl with long dark hair and violet eyes, her wings were indigo and small but prettily so.

Riptide was a boy with blonde hair, sea-green eyes, cerulean wings, and a sweet personality. But when someone threatened those he cared about, things got messy.

We were running.

They were hideous and small.

They were hunched over, and their legs were short and squat, but they somehow managed to gain on us.

Their skin was an ugly swamp green, with warts, bumps, and the occasional hair on their hide.

Their snouts were twisted in a perpetual sneer or scowl, I couldn't tell. They had tusks coming out of the sides of their mouths.

Their eyes were small black and beady. They were rimmed with red and glittering like beetles.

We didn't know anything about them, but we knew that they had killed our families. All of the water dragons, except us. We managed to get out in time, but our families didn't make it.

We arrived at our destination, a moonlit beach. It was the very same one in my little book.

There was a mountainside on one side of the beach. A little door could be seen, It was wooden and had metal clamps holding it together.

Seaweed, barnacles, and starfish decorated the little door, and if you weren't looking for it, you wouldn't even know that it was there.

We were out of breath, our chests heaving, our legs pounding on the sand, and our hearts thundering in our ears.

But we could still hear the beasts' heavy breathing and growls, and the sound was getting closer with each step they took, and each one we fell behind.

We put on our last burst of speed and sprinted there.

The little door seemed too small, but it widened to accustom to our size due to our wings.

Indigo went in first, Riptide was going to go last, I could sense it. But before he could, I shoved him in. I dove in and instantly slammed the door behind us.

The horrid creatures slammed themselves against the door, but I had my full weight on the door. I held them back and put the lock on before they could open the door.

I backed away slowly in case they could open it.

We were in a tunnel system or some sort. We had been here before, last week as a matter of fact.

We were standing at a crossroads. There were so many tunnels, and each leading off into the darkness. The tunnels radiated magic, and I knew that whichever one we chose, we could never come back here.

Our homeland now belonged to them. The nameless creatures who had slaughtered everyone we knew and loved. No other Water Dragon from our beach remained.

But I remembered a specific, place, where there were more water dragons, a beach where we could be safe.

I thought that the brightest tunnel would be our path to our new home.

We each simultaneously looked at each other and chose one that was glowing just a bit brighter than the rest.

We went in single file.

The tunnels were large, so were stood upwards in them.

Indigo went in first, then Riptide, and then me.

The only sound in the tunnels was our heavy breathing and I swore that I could hear their heartbeats as clearly as I could mine.

The tunnel had shells embedded in its walls, along with sapphires, azure, coral, fossil imprints, and much more. Eventually, we started to see a change.

The gems and sea gems started to come far and few between. Instead, they were replaced with framed pictures. The first one was of a beach, but not ours.

We then saw one that we all stayed and stared at.

It was a city, a beautiful one.

The floor was cobblestones, the buildings were gray, but there were many colors around.

But that wasn't was caused us to stop and stare, it was the human in the city.

Actual humans.

It was odd to see people without wings, tails, and scales, but we knew that it was probably normal to them.

We immediately knew that this was where this tunnel led.

We kept on going, each of us nervous and excited.

But we couldn't get the image of our murdered families out of our heads, so that dampened the mood.

We reached another small door, and I knew that this one led to our destination.

We tucked our wings into our jackets.

We looked weird, but it was better than having humans see us. They didn't even know we existed.

The scales on my wrists I could pass for bracelets, but the scales on my cheeks I couldn't disguise quite so easily.

I got powder from the alabaster walls and smeared it on my cheeks. It wasn't the same shade as my skin tone, but it would have to do.

We stepped out, and we gasped.

It was even more beautiful up close.

The clothes they wore were sometimes silly, sometimes gorgeous, but each was unique.

The women wore large dresses and the men wore waistcoats.

We looked down on our own clothes and grimaced. Indigo and I were wearing simple dresses, and we could've passed as normal, had it not been for the bloodstains. Riptide was wearing a t-shirt and some pants. He also could've passed as a poor person. But then again, I got the feeling that normal poor people here didn't have blood stains all over them.

We summoned water and cleaned ourselves up.

((Guys, this is a dream, and they're water dragons, so plz don't judge me. They're))

We walked out and tried to stay in the shadows.

That plan almost instantly backfired.

Someone noticed that we were out of place.

He seemed like a guard and said, "Hey you there! What are your names?"

I was used to saying my real name, so I blurted out, "Sapphire."

Indigo elbowed me in the ribs, and said her name next, "Violet."

Riptide went last and he stood beside us and he looked protective of us. He crossed his strong arms in front of his chest and said gruffly, "Jason."

The guard narrowed his eyes and said stiffly, "I do not recognize you, and by order of the Queen I will have to apprehend you three. Come along nice and quiet, and no one gets hurt."

We started to run.

People stared, pointed and whispered, but we didn't care.

The guard stated calling for backup.

We then saw a girl, not that much older than us, pretty young, around twenty or so, and she joined in on the chase.

I felt her eyes on the little book in my hand.

She tackled us and growled, "All of your possessions will be confiscated." She reached for my little book.

I let out an ear-splitting shriek and slammed my feet on me unprotected stomach. She let out a grunt and fell off of me.

I dragged Indigo and Riptide to their feet and screamed, "RUN!"

We ran but the girl was gaining on us. In my desperation, I threw my little book as hard as I could as far as I could. But not before I put a spell on it, a spell that would render it practically invisible to the human eye. I kept the almonds in my pocket.

She caught up to us, and she had backup. The guards mobbed and trapped us.

I bucked, kicked, snarled, clawed, and everything in between to get free. But it was all in vain. There were just too many of them. I could probably get free if I went into my dragon form, but I couldn't risk having the human know about us.

Riptide and Indigo came to the same conclusion and went limp.

The girl stalked up to us. She had a cold hard look in her eyes when she said, "Take them away, to the special prison."

Before I knew what was happening, they knocked me out.

My last view was of Riptide and Indigo getting the same treatment...

PART TWO COMING SOON!

So, the dream didn't end, I just want to keep you guys in suspense :3
