"Where are we going again?" I asked woozily as I stared up at the young nurse. "To your CT scan" she replied as she swiped her card and opened a door. After wheeling me through, she turned the bed and took me down another corridor. "Does it hurt?" I asked anxiously as we went through another door. "Not at all, it's like a giant X-ray machine that takes pictures of your insides" she chirped as we went into a large room.

After helping me up and onto the cold machine, she instructed me to lay perfectly still. "You're going to feel warm all over your body, that's normal. Just relax and try to lay still..." I nodded as the machine powered up and began slowly putting me in the tunnel. A loud whirring sound echoed around me as the scan began. Heat coursed through my veins, it felt like I was burning up from the inside out.

After they finished, the nurse helped me back to the bed, then wheeled me back to the room, where Lewis was waiting. He was slouched over on the guest chair staring at his shoes. Dark circles framed his tired, amber eyes. "Now we just have to wait on the results of the CT scan. The doctor will come in shortly." We nodded as she closed the curtain and walked away.

"I'm sorry..." I began as tears welled in my eyes. "I know this isn't how you wanted to spend Christmas..." I trailed off sadly. "I'm sorry I'm so accident prone..." I sniffled as I stared at the ceiling. He stood up from his chair and sat next to me on the bed. "The hospital is definitely a surprise..." he chuckled as he entangled his fingers with mine. "Despite what you think, whether it's here or at home...as long as I'm with you, that's all I want for Christmas..." he trailed off as he caressed my hand with his thumb.

"And yes, you are accident prone. In fact, you might just be the most accident-prone person on the planet. I'm surprised you've survived this long to be honest..." he chuckled. I pouted. "But I love you regardless, so stop being dumb and focus on getting better, okay?" I nodded as I wiped a tear from the corner of my eye. We glanced up as the curtain opened and the doctor stepped through.

"I got the results from the scan..." she began as she glanced at my chart. "Hannah, how long have you been having abdominal pain?" She asked as she glanced up from the clipboard. "A few months I guess, definitely less than a year..." I trailed off unsurely. "Is everything okay Doctor?" Lewis asked cautiously. "Hannah, you had an ovarian cyst the size of a golf ball on your left tube..." my eyes opened wide. "A cyst?" She nodded. "It's a growth that fertile girls your age are prone to getting. Almost every woman gets them, but they usually disappear after a while or they remain too small to cause any real problems."

I glanced back at Lewis who looked just as confused as I was. "But yours didn't stop growing. That's why you were in pain for such a long time..." she trailed off. "So, what can we do?" I asked warily. "Well, the cyst is no longer there, it burst. That's why you're in pain right now. The discoloration on your stomach indicates internal bleeding. You're hemorrhaging Hannah, a lot. I think our only option right now is to operate..." my eyes opened wide.

"Surgery? Is it that serious?" Lewis asked anxiously. "I'm afraid so. If you hadn't brought her in tonight, she would've have died from blood loss in the morning." My mind raced with all the information I had just received. My pulse accelerated, causing the monitor I was hooked on to go crazy. "Hannah, I need you to calm down. Take deep, slow breaths... " she instructed as she stood on the other side of the bed.

"S-so what do you recommend? Is there any way to avoid surgery?" I asked. "You might lose your ovary, but from out here I can't tell. You're still young so I would like to prevent that from happening. As for the hemorrhage, I need to open up your stomach and drain all the blood that's pooling there. If you chose not to have surgery, there's a small chance your body will absorb it..." she trailed off.

"How small is that chance?" Lewis asked as I cringed in pain. The morphine had begun to wear off. "5 percent..." she said softly. "And the other 95?" He asked cautiously. "She'll get an infection from the blood and die of septic shock..." Lewis looked at me grimly. His face paler than mine. "W-will surgery s-stop the pain?" I managed to choke out. She nodded. "Yes, it's the most effective and efficient way..." I took in a deep, steadying breath. "Let's do the surgery..."
