After the incident with my surgery, I found out that my Mom's holiday had gone awry as well. She was getting liposuction done in South America and they botched the job. She was very sick for nearly two months. Before she left, we had an enormous argument about how I believed it was a terrible idea. I warned her and she didn't listen. So, when I found out that she had complications, I was furious.

Eventually though, she got better and returned to the states. By the time she arrived, I was gone. Lewis, Allison and I moved into a small single that was located on his grandparent's property. Since the situation with my mother had gotten so tense, I was left with no other alternative. At first it took some getting used to, but eventually I came to see it was the best decision I could've made.

4 months passed with us living together and Kmart became a thing of the past. I ended up quitting because I got a better offer at a bank and Lewis resigned the day after. Apparently, he only stayed because of me. One afternoon, I had to work late and ended up getting home around 8pm. As soon as I pulled into the driveway, Lewis stepped out of the apartment.

"Wow, you look extra handsome tonight..." I mused as he leaned in and gave me a kiss. He was wearing a light grey shirt, with a black vest. His hair was neatly brushed and the musky scent of cologne drifted off him. "Nah... you're just saying that..." he said embarrassed. "I promise..." I whispered as I wrapped my arms around his neck. "How's Allison?" I asked as we held our position for a few seconds. "She's good, she's with my sister next door..." I nodded as I pulled away.

"Close your eyes for me..." Lewis whispered as he took my hand. "Uh...okay..." I giggled as he led me into the house. "No peeking..." he instructed as he took my stuff and let go of my hand for a second. "Okay, you can open your eyes now..." he whispered just as a soft song began to play.

(The song was Fallen, by Mariachi el Bronx)

A gasp escaped my lips as I laid eyes on our tiny living room. A small pathway of circular candles, lit up the entrance and rose petals littered the floor. "I guess that look means you like it?" He chuckled softly as he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me into a slow dance. "This...this is amazing..." I managed to choke out as I rested my head on his shoulder. We swayed back and forth as the music swirled around us. Time seemed to stop as we danced.

"Why...?" I asked as I glanced up at him. His skin seemed to glow in the dim lighting. "Do I really need a reason to surprise my girlfriend of two years?" He asked with a smile. "I... I don't know..." I trailed off embarrassed. "The answer is no, but tonight you're right. I do have a reason..." he trailed off as he took my hand and led me down the candle-lit path to our room. My heart fluttered when I laid eyes on the giant rose petal heart that engulfed most of our room. Petals also covered the floor and bed. The words Will you were spelled out with candles in the heart's center.

"Hannah, I know it's only been two years and we're both still kind of young, but from that very first day that I saw you walk into the store, I knew you were the girl for me..." I covered my face with my hands when I realized what was happening. "I'm not very good with words, so I did all this to show you how much you mean to me. You're intelligent, resourceful, responsible, creative, talented, loyal, beautiful..." he trailed off. "There are so many words that describe how amazing you are, but besides those seven, I can only think of four more..." he paused as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black box.

"It's not much, but it was the best I could afford with my Kmart salary" he chuckled as he opened the box and knelt down inside the heart, right beneath the words. "Marry me Hannah?" My heart nearly exploded. Tears of joy rolled down my cheeks as I knelt beside him and wrapped my arms around his neck. I pressed my lips urgently against his.

"Yes...yes. A thousand times yes..." I whispered as I rested my forehead against his. A crooked smile lit up his face as he slid the black-gold ruby ring on my finger. "I love you Hannah..." more tears poured down my face as he said that. "I love you too..." I said with a smile as I wiped away my tears. "I guess now might be a good time to show you..." I trailed off as I stood up and made my way out to the living room.
