My Life's Heater

It was another regular day in the 2020-2021 school year.

When the alarm rang, I immediately awoke. I barely slept and didn't feel good.

I quickly went into the bathroom and then had breakfast. I had virtual class. I felt a positive effect of the pandemic was that I got more sleep.

I had a short Spanish quiz in the first class. The next class was taking note.

I felt a bit relaxed.

I'm ready.

Third class was AP US History. I had two essays to be done in one hour for the unit test.

I was the worst in literature, and I needed to write about history. I knew I would not make it.

I skipped lunch. Then, I had another extra 30 minutes.

I thought really quick. I typed very fast. I sweated. It was cold sweat.

It was right before the deadline.

But I could not relax. Another quiz was coming for AP Calculus.

I love math the most. But, I was always stressed during tests for any class.

I managed to turn in the quiz in time. It took too much time to take the pictures, upload to a new doc, turn it into a pdf then submit to google classroom. This process was the most stressful thing, because sometimes something goes wrong and it doesn't work.

I had a little homework left. So, I tried to complete it really quick.

I was not hungry. I was tired. After I finished everything, I took a nap.

6:00 p.m

Someone called me. There were my two sisters.

I woke up. I felt cold, even though the heater was turned on.

They told me to go downstairs and eat. Everyone was waiting.

It was strange. We often eat dinner from seven to eight. It was too early.

Nevermind. I needed to eat. I already skipped lunch, I must eat more dinner.

I washed my face with hot water to get warmer, even just a little bit.

After I went downstairs, I was surprised. There were dishes that we often have for parties or celebrations.

I asked: "Did someone visit?"

I really didn't know what happened. My room was the farthest from the living room. And, I haven't left my room since breakfast.

My little brother answered: "Birthday! Birthday!"

Well... I forgot my birthday.

They asked if I really did forget. I told them I was busy preparing for tests. They asked if they were hard. I told them everything was okay.

Dad left work early. Mom cooked the dishes. My sisters bought a birthday cake.

They were all busy with their work, but they didn't make me do anything.

To be honest, sometimes I felt very negatively about moving here because I found it hard in school and life.

But, it was just me rebelling. I understood. Parents wanted a better future for us siblings.

Family is why I'm here. I'm trying my best to say thanks.

They always warm me up when I felt cold.
