Background : Yui and Yū attended Chidoriyama Junior High. When they played against Daiichi Kitagawa a Junior Higher like them. Yui and a reward for her exceptional performance as a Libra later that same year alongside her twin brother Yū. Which both made them legends before their own time. At very young age she was being hit on by boys that always turn them down harshly usually win a fist to the face. When she finally got in the high school and join the Karasuno volleyball team they were immediately impressed by her skills and how fast she was and was given the name Lightning Phoenix. she is usually called super cute by all the male players and that gets on her nerves except for Hinata. She meeting Hinata on his first day of school and develops a crush on him right away. She was very close to Karasuno High. At the beginning of March, when Asahi doesn't show up for practice, Yui and Yū go looking for him and yells at him for quitting the team. The vice-president comes up behind them and Yū knocks into him, causing him to break a vase. Yui explains that her brother is a bit 'unusual' and but they still were suspended from two weeks of school for this and Yui had nothing to do with this and was banned from the club for a month. She is mad at her brother for getting her man from the club and gives him the silent treatment until they're allowed to play again.

As a child Yui was over energetic and fun. Not being afraid of anything or anyone. However their grandfather told them that being fearless is good but don't get yourself in the trouble because it. Yui live with her grandfather and twin brother all her life and what happened to her parents is still a mystery to this day. she didn't have any fears until the age of five when she fell into a den of spiders and was trapped there for quite some time to this day she has a fear of arachnophobia and can't even stand the sight of a spider. she and her twin brother sometimes speak in unison and can read each other's minds just like twins usually can do and they had a strong bond ever since they were born. Yū is 2 minutes older than Yui.

Personality : Yui personality is very much similar to her brothers because they are both energetic and temperamental. Her crazy and bizarre like nature can attend unwanted attention quite easily. But she doesn't mind it and enjoys being in the spotlight. She hardly even worries about what she says or how she says it. she doesn't worry about what other people think and is happy with the person she is now. her actions sometimes get her in the trouble and may result in to violence and she ends up getting into a fight with someone to get out her anger on certain people or objects. She is sensitive of her friend's feelings and would do anything to try and help them. she has a weird habit of playing with her hoop earrings when she is in trouble or lying. She prefers to everyone by their first name even if it annoys them and has fun doing so and she also enjoys teasing her brother of the way he does his hair just to get more height. She can be a bit clumsy when she is around Shōtō Hinata do to her having a crush on him. Her outburst can cats cause a bit of ruckus and she usually gets scolded for it by Daichi just like her brother. she dislikes anybody who gets far more attention than they do deserve causing her to be jealous. She can to get over excited about things an overdose is it a good bit of the time. But unlike her brother she hardly has any fears except for one that involves spiders. She tends to be over energetic and confident during their matches even in the practice and always gives a hundred percent whatever she is doing or what she's trying to accomplish especially in volleyball. In the beginning she comes off as very stubborn born and childish but tends to grow as a player and become more chore alongside her teammates and is usually the voice of reason when things go wrong and need to be set right. She's straightforward and honest about her opinion even if it hurts others and tends to be childish some of the time. she usually gets herself in a corner and when and realize on her friends and get her out of it.

Appearance : Yui is the shortest member of the volleyball team next to her twin brother Yū with both of them standing at 159.3 cm (Now at 160.5 cm) Despite her short stature she is a good bit muscular build. She usually and she has a fair complexion. She often wears bright colorful t-shirts and skirts. She  dresses like a tomboy most of the time. In games she wears an armband on her left arm unlike the rest of the team which is opposite the side of what her brother wears his. She prefers wearing tennis shoes over heels.

During the team's first training camp Hinata didn't realize Yui because her hair wasn't in her usual ponytail.

when she was trying to figure out the name for her speed attack he knocked the suggested the name lightning to be added to the word Phoenix.

She's always over excited at their games and this gets the players more confidence in themselves.
