Backstory: Evanora's mother abandoned her in a shipyard one winter. She would've died had the captain of a ship called the Golden Hind hadn't taken her in. The captain was a woman passing as a man and running a fearsome pirate crew. She hid Evanora until the girl was old enough to help out with some of the duties around the ship. She had never known a life outside of piracy. At a young age she was trained to use a dagger and a sword and shortly after that she learned how to man the ship. The crew eventually accepted her despite the fact that having a woman on board was supposedly bad luck. Over time, she even became second mate to the captain.

All was well for a long time until the Golden Hind was attacked by the King's navy. The ship was overrun and sunk, with the captain on it. Nora and the rest of the crew were taken to prison and sentenced to execution by hanging. Luckily for her, a certain captain of the Black Pearl was interested in something she had. Jack Sparrow rescued her in hopes that she had a map to a glorious treasure. He had planned to kill her right after she handed over the map but the ancient document had gone down with the Golden Hind.

Evanora used this as her leverage. She had the map memorized and agreed to lead Sparrow to the treasure. Of course, she did try to lose him a few times and the pair nearly killed one another multiple times before they agreed to a partnership. She has been with Jack ever since. He reminds her a bit of her former captain and the person she considered her mother.
