Okay, so if you're reading this then I bet that you have already seen the sequel to the movie of our beloved blue blur, Sonic. Now to start things off, the trailers themselves filled me with wonder of what was going to happen. Now I will say that I only saw the reveal trailer and the Meet Knuckles scene before the movie, but I did not watch the final trailer before then because I did not want to be spoiled too much of the movie. Now lets first start off with Tails and Knuckles.

Tails was voiced none other than his own voice actor for the games (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and when he was first introduced in the movie. He sounded and acted pretty typical to how he actually sounds from the actual Sonic games as I believe that was Sega and Paramount's move with Tails. As Sonic stated in one trailer though, Tails looked small, adorable, and he is without a genius. Of course, he was not able to outsmart Robotnik yet since Tails never really studied him, but I did feel like there should've been an instance in the movie where Tails and Robotnik could've had a rivalry of their brains. Either way, I was happy that he came in and we got a small, but a good backstory to how Tails knew Sonic as it almost matches how Sonic met Tails in the games. Even Sonic quickly warmed up to Tails and looked at him like a little brother which was wholesome. . . especially in the bar scene where Tails used his two tails as a blanket for Sonic. It was such a sweet moment between two best friends.

Going onto Knuckles, he was voiced by Idris Elba and at the beginning he only got one speaking line in a trailer, but that was probably just to reveal that he was in. They even made it seem that Knuckles was more powerful than Sonic which is true when you watch the movie. Knuckles stated that he spent his entire life fighting while Sonic didn't really have much experience at all. Knuckles in terms of personality. . . was PERFECT! He was meant to look and sound serious, but even with that personality, there were still funny moments from him to show his lack of knowledge and gullible attitude such as when he didn't understand text messaging or how to play baseball properly. Sonic even called him The Winter Soldier as they are kind of alike when you actually listen to both of their stories. Knuckles and Sonic's relationship changed from archenemies to friends just like in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Robotnik tricks Knuckles and steals the Master Emerald, Sonic offers his help and friendship to Knuckles and they even formed a team in the end to protect the Master Emerald along with Tails. This shows that Sega and Paramount really want to reference the games now and speaking of it. . .

Let's get into the actual story now. Robotnik sends out a signal using Sonic's quill and he meets Knuckles and offers to help the echidna find Sonic. Sonic in the meantime settles in Green Hills with his new human family Tom and Maddie Wachowski. As he does, Sonic wanted to use his powers to try and help others, but he ends up putting others in danger in the process. Tom lends Sonic some advice to tell him that there will eventually come a time where he can use his powers to save people's lives. Turns out when Tom and Maddie went to Hawaii, that was the moment as Robotnik finds Sonic alone and introduces him to Knuckles who Sonic finds that he's more powerful than he is and that Knuckles was trying to find him so that they can find the Master Emerald. Before Sonic could be beaten, Tails comes in and saves the blue hedgehog and they decide to help each other save the planet after Sonic receives a message from his foster mother, Longclaw to tell him that he's the source of finding the Master Emerald. Tails told Sonic that he looks up to him and they form a mutual partnership.

When Sonic and Tails use the rings to go into a snowstorm, they find themselves in a Siberian bar where they were not really welcome that much. Tails accidentally almost gets them killed with his translator device and believes that he is not cut out for this. Sonic reassures him that with him he'll be fine and soon enough, they were able to win a dance fight together. This is when their relationship increases to being like brothers as Sonic really does appreciate having Tails around and helping him.

When they get to the ice temple, which is a SOLID reference to Ice Cap Zone from Sonic 3 and Sonic Adventure, they are ambushed by Robotnik and Knuckles. After getting the next map, Sonic and Tails try to make their escape, but Knuckles stops them. Knuckles explains his backstory to Sonic which almost made Sonic understand his dedication to defeating him. Tails however accidentally catches Knuckles off guard which makes the echidna distrust the two even more. Both him and Robotnik take the map and Tails is hurt while Sonic tries to call for help.

With the humans in Hawaii, Tom saves Sonic and Tails just in the nick of time while crashing the wedding. . . and here is where the huge twist comes in. . . The wedding was a SETUP by G.U.N. from the government. THAT'S RIGHT! G.U.N. from Sonic Adventure 2 comes into play and they believe to have finally abducted Sonic along with having Tails as well. Luckily, Maddie saves them and Sonic realizes that he can't put anyone in danger any longer including Tails, so he goes after his enemies alone. As for the side story with the wedding being fake, I didn't care as much, with Rachel and her fiancé Randall since it wasn't really Sonic based, but. . . I could say it was a decent twist in the end.

Sonic then literally treads water as fast as he can across the rapids of the ocean while saying his iconic line from Sonic X, Gotta Go Fast. Unfortunately, he couldn't handle the water and nearly drowns, but he made it to the temple anyway. If you guys didn't notice the traps, underwater area, and the air bubbles that Sonic sucked up was actually a reference to the Labyrinth Zone from the original Sonic The Hedgehog game and Sonic 4: Episode 1. Sonic and Knuckles' fight was awesome too as we got to even see Sonic use the Spin Dash and the Stomp from modern Sonic games. They even used another Sonic X reference to when Knuckles was trying to punch Sonic as that is a reference to episode 5 of Sonic X, Cracking Knuckles.

When Robotnik double crosses Knuckles and steals the emerald for himself, Sonic and Knuckles team up and Tails commandeers a plane to save them as a reference to Sonic and Tails' iconic plane that they ride, The Tornado. At the city, Robotnik builds a giant robot based off of him with the help of piloting it with his subordinate, Agent Stone. This is an obvious reference to the Death Egg Robot, an iconic boss from the Sonic series from Sonic 2, all the way to Sonic Mania. We even got to see a Sonic Heroes reference with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles forming a team bond and running to strike down Robotnik together.

Near the end of the battle, Sonic is injured and Tom and Maddie save him along with him saving the emerald. When they get injured too, Sonic tells his human family to run. . . but they said that they would rather stick with him. . . THAT is true familial love right there as it shows that Tom and Maddie love Sonic like their own child. . . Now here comes the best part. . . The Master Emerald shatters to reveal the seven Chaos Emeralds and Sonic absorbs them just before they are crushed to become. . .

SUPER SONIC!!! I was BLOWN away that they did NOT forget that Super Sonic first appeared in Sonic 2 in 1992. It was honestly the last thing on my mind as I doubted it at first. They truly got my attention to this as Super Sonic DEMOLISHED Robotnik and his robot to then just give himself a chili dog in the end as his own prize.

After the fight is over, the new Team Sonic form an agreement that they will protect the Master Emerald from evil that tries to find it thanks to Knuckles putting it back together with his own powers. Nice reference to the guardian of the Master Emerald himself. In the end, they played baseball like a family and had such a sweet moment hanging out as Sonic even called Tom, Dad. . . it nearly brought a tear to my eye. . . but it's not over as Agent Stone disguised listens to G.U.N. discussing something. . . a secret about a project dating back to over 50 years ago. It showed that the project was. . .

SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG! Meaning that we ARE DEFINITELY getting a Sonic Movie 3 in the future and I'm already excited. Jim Carrey said that he was most likely going to retire, so I imagine that they will either find another Robotnik (I doubt it though since Jim Carrey was the best at playing him) or Shadow will be the main antagonist in the movie. I'm willing to bet the second one, but we'll see.

So after watching the movie and witnessing everything. . . I will give this movie. . . A 9.1 out of 10!

Not that much, I know, but it still blew my mind away that I can't say that this movie was probably and currently the BEST video game movie out there! WAY better than the dumb Mario movie in the past or even Detective Pikachu which wasn't really bad at all in my opinion. I hope that Paramount and Sega will give us even more in Sonic 3 as I want to see Sonic Adventure 2 references and Super Shadow! If you're a Sonic fan, watch this movie as I definitely recommend it if you haven't seen it yet!
