I ran out through the gates of the academy. I didn't really know where I was going, but I remembered that there was a way to get onto the roof of the school. Simon had shown it to me years ago, and if I remembered correctly it wasn't too hard to find.

After a while of searching I found it. I walked up the hill that was so high you could reach the roof at the back of the big house. I jogged the last bit, then sat on the highest part of the roof. The tower.

I looked out over the sky. It was very beautiful. The sunset began to spread its pink color across the sky, it was as if the fairies painted it to show what time it was.

I curled up and rested my head on my lap. I never thought my ability would be so... complicated. That it would depend on how my mood was. Because at least that's how I experienced it so far. I had been very angry with that teacher, and the fireball had been big.
But it hadn't been meant to hit Liam. Now he had naturally been quick to move away, but I had unconsciously directed it at him.

Everything had happened so quickly. It was hardly like I had time to understand it myself. And I had failed. I had ruined my chance to get into Mystic.
Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if I got banned from Canai. I couldn't control my ability and because of that I was a threat.

But at the same time, it wasn't so strange that it happened to me, I hadn't had time to prepare because my ability had been blocked until now. They must understand that it was different for me.

Suddenly I saw Katie and Tristan there down in the yard. They looked up at me, tried to make me see them.

"Aline!" Tristan called. "Get down from there! The results are in! Everyone must come down to the Hall!"

I ignored them, I knew how it would end anyway. I would have to go home, I would have to admit that mother was right.

But part of me kept hoping. Continued to think positive thoughts. And I listened to it. So I jumped off the roof and strolled slowly down the hill to my friends.
Together we entered the Hall where Mr. Brock stood preparing his speech.
He smiled at me as I passed, a friendly smile that made me hope. Hope that I could do it anyway. We sat down at the Blue Topazes, waiting for the results to come. Now we would see how well it went. If we passed.
