Phoenix's POV

     It's been almost a month since I had my vision and it's been all I can think about. The most concerning part is that not a single part has happened yet. No government notifications saying anything about a celebration, I haven't talked to Amator at all, Kai and my conversations haven't strayed from normal, I haven't seen any vials of blood, nor have I been to any places that have an overwhelming hopeless feel, and I certainly haven't seen those dreaded words again.

    Today is September 13. I spent almost a month worrying and not a single part of the vision has happened yet. Everyday I dread more wondering when my vision will happen.

  Today I mindlessly went through my day until I got home, when I did there's was a message on my communicater it said:
Dear citizen number F04302132837P
Today is 09/13/2148 which means tomorrow will be 09/14/2148, or as our records show your match's eighteenth birthday. Your match, M09142130629A, will be receiving his career placement tomorrow and you and your parents are invited to celebrate with him and his family as he finds out where he will be working for the rest of his life. Until further notice please enjoy your discrimination-free life.

  Something about that message seems oddly familiar, as I read it I got a sense of deja vu. Before I could dwell on it any further my dad came in from work. He didn't know about my confusing and worrisome vision, in fact no one knew about it because I hadn't told anyone.

   "Hey, Dad, what would you like for dinner?" I asked him. Despite him being exhausted he always had something for dinner with me, claiming that he wanted to be with his Phoenix for a small bit before the time came when he can't.

   "How about steak and cheeses using the left over bread that you made the other day." He said tiredly.

   As I was fixing dinner I told him that tommorow we had to go to Lucifer's career placement tommorow, he said at least he could get off work early and I could see Amator. I knew that he had a point and I was missing Amator, but that didn't stop the feeling of dread from devouring me the rest of the night.

    I didn't get much sleep last night after dinner the feeling of dread got so bad that I kept tossing and turning all night and it didn't stop this morning. All day I've been distant and sleep deprived and my friends noticed. At lunch I was bombarded with questions about if I was okay or not, but I just said that I was fine a I just had to go to the slimeball's house tonight, most of them seemed to accept this except for Kai he kept throwing me looks that promised he was going ask me about it later. Now as I approached Lucifer and Amator's house the dread was almost enough to make me sick.

   Lucifer's mom opened the door with a bright cheery smile on her face.

  "Oh, come in, come in, we're just about to start isn't it so exciting my son's about to find out where he's going to contribute to society surrounded by loved ones. They just grow up so fast don't they, one minute their babies in your arms and the next they are about to leave the nest." She prattled on with teary eyes. Soon she was reminiscing about how when Lucifer was young he and Amator would play tag and how he'd always "accidentally" push Amator in the mud. Something tells me it wasn't always an accident, but that's just what he told his mom.

   We still had some time before the career placement government official hologram arrived, Lucifer's mom she said she wanted to make dinner, but she said she hadn't in a while and she wanted help. Of course I offered to help, (I may dislike Lucifer, but as for his mom I still haven't found a reason to dislike her besides the fact that she's oblivious to what her son does), and to my surprise so did Amator. Well we went into the kitchen my dad went to talk with Lucifer's dad and Lucifer went with them.

   When we going to the kitchen Lucifer's mom told her she wanted to make alfredo pasta and steak with a Caesar salad to start off with since those were Lucifer's favorite dishes she also told us she wanted to make a dessert for after he got his career placement to celebrate. She wanted to make a chocolate Lush for the desert.

   She signed herself the main course Amator the salad and me dessert. All she worked on the stove me and him worked on the counter space in close proximity. We didn't say anything to each other fear that she might hear, but every now and then arm to brush up against each other sending an electric jolt through me. Being near him eased the sense of dread I had all day, but didn't get rid of it.

   After a little while we finish preparing the meal and I had placed the chocolate Lush in the freezer so it could cool down before it was served. I helped and bring out the food for the dinner and we then ate the dinner with minimal chatting mostly between Lucifer and his parents sometimes roping my dad into the conversation. Just as we finished our meal the doorbell rang with delivery of the career placement government official hologram.

   Lucifer got up the to the door and pulled and the hologram machine in his parents and my dad followed, me and Amator were last to follow. When we all arrived Lucifer pressed the power button and the hologram came to life.

  The hologram was of a man in a government issued communications official uniform. He was about forty years old with a bored expression and thin, balding, dull, brown hair. He spoke in a monotone voice the scripted words:
Good evening citizen M09142130629A,
Today is your 18th birthday congratulations. You will be entering the workforce tomorrow as a full-fledged career working citizen, yet since our records show that you are matched to citizen F04302132837P this means that you will not move out of your parents housing until you complete match matrimonial ceremony which unless you or your match cancels is set for a month after your match turns 18. Some careers mean training before they allow you to be in the workforce if you are in such a career you will have six months of training before put into the workforce. Now it is my greatest pleasure to announce your career placement, who knows you might even get my job, now I'm supposed to pause for 2 minutes for dramatic effect. The 2 minutes will be commencing now....

   As we waited those two minutes the feeling up to that came back with a force so powerful I was scared.

The hologram started again,
Your career placement will be as a Fae Enforcer. You will report to training tomorrow.
