My mouth opens and only a low wailing comes out as Peeta tugs at my arms. I smack his hand away and huddle on the ground, crying. They came back. They're coming back for me. I'm not safe here. They are going to hurt me again. I'm going to be killed.

"Katniss, come on," He says and I hear Luna screaming her head off next to him. "Look, I know you're scared but we really have to go." He tries to pick me up but i just swat at him. "Prim, go ahead."

"But I," She starts and he over shoots her.

"Get my daughter to safety!" He says. "I'll get Katniss." I hear her footsteps running away and Peeta kneels on the ground and wraps his arms around me as I rock on the ground. I keep screaming and he hushes me. "Come on, Sweetheart. You can do this. Just let me get you up." I look at him, tears rolling down my cheeks. "Don't go out this way, Katniss. You can't let them win. You've fought too hard to let them win like this." I try to  get up, but Peeta comes forward and picks me up.

"They're coming for me," I whimper and he shakes his head, pulling me up and holding me against him like a child.

"They're coming for all of us, Katniss," He says. "We need to go. We need to go down and be with your family."  I cling my arms around his neck and let him carry me out of the dorms. We go down several stairs and I feel more and more claustrophobic as we fall further and further into the ground.  Once we get to the rush of people, we are directed to a set of beds and Peeta carefully sets me down on one. I look up at him and he gently touches my cheek.

"What, what happens now?" I ask. He sighs and I look around.

"For now, we wait," he says and I keep darting my eyes around.

"Where are Prim and Luna?" I ask and He looks behind us.

"I don't know," He says before he suddenly points. "There's your mother. It looks like she has the baby." I watch as my mother comes through everyone and carefully lays the baby in my arms.

"There you go," Mother says softly and I smile at my baby, rocking her on my knees, "There's your Mama." I cry as i hold her close to me and she slowly starts to quiet despite the ringing of the alarm. peeta keeps looking over the crowd and his silence worries me a little. "Do you see her, Peeta?"

"I don't," he says and I look up, turning to my mother.

"Wasn't she with you?" I ask, " She had to have been, because she had Luna."

"I don't know where she is," My mother says, , "She handed me the baby and left." Peeta's face goes white and he clenches his fist.

"What is it?" I ask and he shakes his head.

"She isn't that stupid," He says and my mother gasps in realization.

"She went back for him!" I look between them and then at my baby. There's only one him in my sister's life and he's fuzzy and hisses at me.

"She went for the damn cat?!" I say and I start to try get up. Peeta stops me and I struggle.

"Katniss, calm down, please," He says. "I'll go. It will be okay, I'll get her." My mother suddenly points and shakes her head.

"I see her!" She says and I look around her  as I see the small blonde girl weaves through the crowd over to us. Peeta picks her up and hugs her tight to keep her. I stare at them a moment and I pull on her skirt aggressively as he sets her down.

"How dare you!" I cry. "How dare you run back up there for a cat!" She cuddles the muddy yellow cat to her chest as she cries,  shaking her head.

"I had to leave him once," She says. "I couldn't leave him again." I shake my head and cuddle my baby against my body. I'm rocking back and forth on the bed, curled in a ball. Peeta watches me a moment before sitting down beside me.

"She's okay, Katniss," He says softly, "We are all okay." I nod, not doing any more than just sitting in my spot. He carefully, slowly, wraps his arms around us, a firm, strong pressure around my trembling body. "Just keep breathing those deep breaths. It's gonna be alright." I nod and look down at the baby in my arms as she grips onto the lengths of my hair that had fallen loose from the patchy braid.  I stroke her head and breathe in the smell of her head. My heart rate slows and I slowly stop rocking. "Better?"

"I think so," I whisper and the whole ground shakes. I look around as the lights flicker and Peeta rubs my back. "Was that?"

"That's what it feels like when a bomb hits here," he confirms. Prim sets the cat on the bed with us and looks at me.

"Mother and I are going to go see if we can help the doctors with anything," she says. "Will you be okay?" I look up at her slowly and Peeta nods.

"I've got her," He says softly and I watch as they leave. Peeta gently rubs my back and Luna gurgles as I hold her against my chest. I pat her back and feel the earth rumble as another bomb hits and I look at Peeta.

"How much longer do you think it will be?" I ask and he shakes his head.

"I don't know," He says. "They'll probably keep us overnight. That's what they've done in the past."

"How many times have you had to sit through this?" I ask and he looks down.

"Two or three before," He says. "One of them happened around the same time they went to get you."

"I feel like the whole world is going to fall on top of us and bury us alive," I whisper. I look down at my baby and Peeta rubs my back.

"Don't think like that," he says softly, "It only makes it worse." I look up at him and lean against his chest.

"I'm sorry that I acted the way I did up there," I say softly and he shakes his head.

"You can't help it when that happens," He says. "You were just scared." He looks down at the baby  and shakes his head. "I'm so sorry for the deal I made."

"You did it to save us, Peeta," I whisper. "I just wish you had told me before she did in that meeting." He nods and looks at our baby.

"She looks more and more like you every day," He whispers and I nod.

"I see you too in there," I say and she sticks her fist in her mouth. I touch her dark hair and smile. Her bright eyes look at me and I sigh. "She's already just, so perfect."

"Do you regret it?" He asks and I look up at him. "Having a child?"  I look at her and shake my head.

"You know how I felt," I say. "Until this war ends, I'll still feel the same. I didn't want this." Peeta looks at the baby in my arms and sighs. "It was never about not being able to care about the baby in my arms. I know I would love this little girl so much that were anything to happen to her, were she inevitably reaped for the games, I would never be able to survive that."

"We are going to make a better world for her," He says. "You still believe that right?" I nod and lift her up.

"For you and all the rest of the children so they never have to suffer my nightmares," I promise her gently and Peeta smiles. The world rumbles again and the lights go out. I clutch onto my baby and Peeta gently rubs my back.

"Just lay down," He says. "Try to go to sleep, It's gonna be a long night." I nod and lay back, looking at him.

"Will you stay with me?" I ask, laying my baby at my belly. Peeta smiles and carefully lays down behind me, his arm draped protectively over us. My breath starts to slow downa nd Peeta gently kisses my shoulder, whispering something as I fall into a dreamless sleep.
