Hey guys, I'm writing a new story on webnovel called Re:The Worst System If I Level My Zombie Will Destroy The World. It's similar to re:zero but the main character has to become a zombie who hunts down his own teammates whenever he dies. Aka he's stuck watching his zombie self do terrible things until someone kills him so he can respawn. You can check it out if you want, it's an RPG system type of novel. If it gets enough attention I might do it as a contracted book with webnovel.

*Shua*

*Shua*

*Shua*

In that desolate mountain outside Dael City, the sky grew dark. Oh so very dark. Clouds shrouded all as something...something else slithered through the air. Rain began to fall in an instant the dry, hot battlefield became soaked. The Angelic Commanders holding their spears of light nodded to each other and then threw all at once. A single human girl brandishing her blue sword met their combined assault, one against a dozen with a crescent swing.

*Boom!*

*Slither*

Xiao Gui opened her eyes wide in the final moment. She was determined as a warrior to see her death coming. However, it was neither the Heavens, nor the Hells which could determine her fate in that moment. Twelve spears of light arced from their Angelic Commander's hands and spun through the smoky air towards her. Time slowed, infinitesimally, and she tightened her grip, ignoring the pain in her leg. The beams of light grew closer and closer.

Closer...

Closer...

Almost touching...

Then the strange disturbance came. With a great gust of wind and a deluge of rain, a cloud of purest roiling black, so smooth it might be obsidian, rushed through the battlefield. Only one word could be used to describe its passage.

Fast!

So fast that the speed of the Angelic Commanders barely allowed them to start turning their heads before it passed. Instantly, the darkness swallowed them whole, and Xiao Gui could not even comprehend what she was seeing. One moment they were proud, haughty members of the Heavenly Host, the next they were turned into gleaming skeletons. Just like that, a dozen Mid-King Realm Angelic Commanders became naught but bones. They crumbled to the ground as the wind of the black cloud's passage scattered them across the landscape. Then the cloud swirled towards Xiao Gui. As it passed her comrades, she saw the demons bodies become stripped of flesh in an instant as well. Nothing but their weapons and skeletons survived.

*Shuuuuaaaa*

It felt like rain was falling from every direction, like up had become down, and left had become right. But everything happened so fast that she could only stand there and experience...experience this happening. Xiao Gui couldn't act as the black cloud consumed even the still incoming spears of light. Instantly, they shattered into pieces and the shuddering wind strangled out their glow. She prepared herself, certain that death was at hand, though of what kind she had no idea.

*Shuaaaaaa*

The wind howled one more time, and then the darkness was upon her. It raged all around, destroying her robes. Xiao Gui held her sword up on high, throwing whatever last Qi she had into the defense. She was sure that whatever this otherworldly force was, it would not matter. However, once the darkness surrounded, everything stopped. Suddenly her tattered robes stopped fluttering, her whipping hair stilled, it was like time just stopped. All became still before a silent wind. No noise existed in this place, no light, just endless reflected black.

Father? Is that you?

In that moment, she was reminded of her true biological father, the Midnight King. His power over darkness was unmatched in the last generation, surely his technique might be like this? Xiao Gui could not say how long she stood there with her sword raised, staring into the endless abyss. Nothing around, just soundless black, black, black. Just when she had begun to despair that she would be locked inside this strange dark raincloud forever, something finally changed.

*Whoosh*

A hint of noise. The nothingness inside the swirling maelstrom shuddered. Something...passed through the void. Xiao Gui was certain that it would be some great personage, perhaps an expert, or forbidden power crossing into this dimension. However, instead something even stranger came through. Her wide eyes opened even wider, as her mouth popped open soundlessly. For what she saw made no sense.

It was a finger.

A single index finger shooting through the darkness. It stopped in front of her for just an instant, as if judging her. A great swell of nothingness approached the human girl and she sensed that she stood on the edge of destruction. If that finger came any closer, she would be swept over and cast into nothingness like her comrades and enemies before her. For some reason, a sense of familiarity entered her heart as she stared at that single finger. It hovered in the air, and Xiao Gui felt a sadness she should not. Then the finger whizzed off and the darkness lifted. The world returned, the smoky charred smell of the battlefield entered her nostrils and she could hear again.

*Badump*

*Badump*

Her heart trembled, the fear almost making her lose herself. When that finger left, the strangeness left, and Xiao Gui was alone. Outside the Dael City Hellhole, of the 1st Elite Hell Squadron and the ambushing battalion of angels, she was the only survivor. However, though she should be shedding tears for her comrades, for the injustice that had just occurred, Xiao Gui found herself inexplicably crying for another reason. Raising her fingers to her face, she touched her cheeks. Red tears mixed with the rain which had come from nowhere soaked her fingers.

"I'm...crying?" She wondered what had just happened. In the distance, the cloud had already snaked its way through the mountainside and disappeared. It had all happened in an instant before she could react. So fast that Xiao Gui wondered if it might have just been a dream. "Shouldn't I be dead?"

She took a step but found herself completely drained of energy. Her sword arm fell and she tumbled to the ground as the world spun. Staring up into the bleak sky, she continued to cry.

"I don't understand...I don't understand. Why does it feel like we've met before?" Completely lost on her own, the powerful cultivator suddenly regressed into a small fragile girl. Something inside of her had broken in that moment. For a long time she just laid there and sobbed. Until finally, she had finished crying. When every last tear was shed, she got to her legs and entered a meditative pose. She could try to leave the battlefield. She could go and report the ambush and death of her teammates to the Higher Ups. However, Xiao Gui would not go. Staring into the direction the finger had gone, she murmured to herself.

"Who are you?"
