Jay has loved Nya since the first moment he saw her.  Something about her he knew he could never live without and he was so happy when she agreed to go out with him.

It broke his heart finding out that the Perfect Match machine told her that Cole was her perfect match.   He lashed out at his best friend about that because he couldn't bring himself to lash out at Nya and he had to take his anger out on someone.

He regained hope when he saw his future reflection that showed that he would end up with Nya.  He wanted to do whatever it took to be with her which created the alternate timeline fiasco that ended up with them getting back together.

Their relationship only got stronger from there which led to Jay asking Nya to be his yang which she accepted.  Jay might not have picked the best time to ask that question, but you just never knew with their lives as a ninja what might happen.  Their lives were very unpredictable.

Jay knew that he always needed Nya in his life.

Except now, Nya was gone.  She sacrificed herself to save him and all of Ninjago.  He felt broken without her.  She was the love of his life and now she was merged with the ocean and he could never get her back.

'I wouldn't have nothin' if I didn't have you,' he thought and he honestly felt like he didn't have anything left.
