So the artists on the team are:

- Nya
- Jay
- Cole
- Lloyd (Though he doesn't draw much)
- Wu (He doesn't draw much either)

First off let's start of with what medium they normally use:

Nya: Water colours/water colour pencils (cause water ninja.)

Jay: Usually does digital art (cause he's the lightning ninja and electricity is used to power most devices) but if he's drawing traditionally than he'll use acrylic paints.

Cole: Graphite pencils/Charcoal. Colour pencils sometimes as well. (cause he's the earth ninja and they're made of earthy materials)

Lloyd: Green colour pencil. Thats it.

Wu: Ink cause it's an old medium and Wu's also old.

Now lets get on to what their styles are.

Nya:

So a while back I was browsimg through the wiki and found this in an article titled: The destiny's bounty adventure box.

Idk if this is canon or not but I LOVE IT! No seriously if this entry was made by Nya than it's absolutely adorable!! Like just look at it, this girl is extra in the most amazing way XD (Nya was defo that one girl who had all her school notes beautifully organised/detailed)

Also I'm just imagining the ninja being attacked by the starfish things and Nya's like, "Alright guys, smile for the camera! I want to capture this in the ship's logbook."

Back on topic

Of course we also have this from Wu's teas:

So Nya could either have two art styles (One that is more realistic and one that's more cartoony) or Wu just asked her to paint this in a specific style. Still, if she able to paint this that easily and with correct lego anatomy (never thought I'd use that term but here we are) than it must mean than she had been using this style for a long time.

So in conclusion:

Semi-realistic artstyle is used when she's doing large scale or more serious projects/paintings. Only Water colours are used. Shading and highlights are done in gradients, like it almost seems to mix with colour underneath (Wu's beard and hands). And if their is blocky shading (shading that looks as though the artist drew a specific shape first and then blended it with drawing) than it is also sort of blended and kinda soft (the shading on the teapot or the shading on the side of Wu's head)

(Also I am NOT using the word serious to say that cartoony artstyles can't be serious!! It's just that Nya tends to use this artstyle in works that take lots of time or are very big. I honestly can't find the right words to describe it lmao)

Cartoony artstyle is used when she's doing doodles or journal/diary entries. Watercolours, blue pen/marker, stickers, highlighters, A white pen I'm pretty sure? and watercolour pencils are used. Shading and highlighting is simple. As in, there is no hatching or new textures or anything. Their also seems to be no drastic changes to lego anatomy.

Cole:

First of all how did he make a pencil drawing with a paintbrush??

And second I just love how everyone in his artstyle seems to look like a chonky marshmallow-

So anyway, he seems to have a very sketchy and very styalised style. A lot of it seems to be achromatic with only very few parts that have colour in them. Shading is done with scribbles and hatching. The highlighted parts are left bare (no materials have been used on them). Artstyle messes with lego anatomy a little bit. Everyone looks like a chonky marshmallow but it's nothing too drastic.

Jay:

Now the only pieces of art that we've seen from him are these:

Also just realised that in the first one Nya's supposed to be holding a blue flower, my heart-

Ok so he seems to have an artstyle similar to Nya's but I feel like his is more realistic. Like you can tell that the picture that Nya made is just a picture (heck it even has some cartoonish elements. Hence why I called her artstyle semi-realistic) but like Jay's painting (the second one) looks as though it could come alive any moment! So I feel like Jay definitely leans towards hyper realism while Nya leans towards semi-realism.

Now I was talking about him being a digital artist as well. And while we don't have any evidence of that (unfortunately ☹️) I will still headcanon that. I feel like the artstyle he would use in DA would be very funky, very bright and would push lego anatomy to it's extremes. And the shading + highlights would also be done using interesting textures.

Also he's shown to be a huge technology nerd so why WOULDN'T he do DA???

So in short:

Jay also two artstyles. The realistic one he uses when he's painting traditionally. And the funky cartoony one he uses when he's working digitally.

Lloyd:

Now the evidence of Lloyd's artwork I got from The Destiny's bounty adventure box article as well (aka the most reliable source of information /jk )

See? This is what I mean when I say he only uses a green colour pencil. I mean just look at this! Tho I definitely think that he would collects art supplies just cause he thinks they look pretty and it drives everyone crazy-

So his artstyle seems to be relatively simple. He seems to really hate drawing clothes and I think he has some struggles with the hands as well. (Same Lloyd, same) Like they look kinda deformed and a little too tiny. The shading is done with hatching only and he seems to use a few stickers from time to time as well. Also are we not going to talk about how he writes only in capital-

Wu:

You have to turn your brightness up but it's there!

His art style seems to use only line art with varying thickness. He adds bits of writing to it at times at well. Very simple with no colours.

Just for fun. I thought I'd draw all of them using their art styles and here's how they came out. Honestly this was quite a fun practice! I had the most fun drawing in Cole, Jay and Nya's styles.

(I am VERY bad at realism so we unfortunately are not getting realistic Jay and Nya any time soon 😔)

Let me know what you think and I'll see you in the next part!
