Kai, the resilient six-year-old boy, had faced the harsh reality of life earlier than most children. It had been several months since his parents had mysteriously disappeared without a trace. The memory of that fateful day still haunted him, and every night, he would sit in his small, dimly lit room, staring at the clock with an anxious heart.

As the clock's minute hand inched closer to midnight, a mixture of anticipation and sadness filled his heart. His seventh birthday was upon him, a milestone that should have been celebrated with laughter, cake, and colorful balloons. Instead, he was left to face the cruel world alone, with no one to sing him the traditional "Happy Birthday" song.

Kai's little sister, Nya, was too young to grasp the concept of birthdays or the heartache that had befallen their family. She lay soundly asleep in her crib, oblivious to the world's cruelties. Kai had taken on the role of protector, the big brother who tried his best to shield her from the harsh reality they now lived in.

As the clock struck midnight, Kai's emotions swelled within him. Tears welled up in his eyes, but he blinked them back, refusing to cry on this special day. He quietly climbed out of his bed and tiptoed to Nya's room, where he gazed at her innocent face, her soft, rhythmic breathing providing a glimmer of comfort.

With a heavy heart, Kai returned to his room and sat on the edge of his bed, hugging his knees to his chest. He began to reminisce about the happier times, the birthdays when his parents would throw him grand parties. They would bake a cake together, invite his friends over, and watch him blow out the candles, making a wish each year. Those memories felt like a distant dream now.

The sudden disappearance of his parents had left a void in his life that nothing could fill. He often wondered where they were, if they were safe, or if they were thinking about him and Nya. His young mind struggled to comprehend the complex emotions that swirled within him.

Kai's eyes remained fixated on the clock. He knew that he couldn't change the circumstances, but he could still make a wish. Closing his eyes, he silently whispered his desire for his parents' safe return, hoping against hope that they would one day come back.

As the hours passed and the world outside his window grew quiet, Kai realized that he had to be strong, not just for himself but for Nya. He couldn't let the pain of his parents' absence consume him. He had to be the guiding light in the darkness that had enveloped their lives.

With renewed determination, Kai made a silent promise to himself. He would protect Nya, he would never let her forget the love of their parents, and he would keep their memories alive in their hearts.

Exhausted from the emotional rollercoaster of his birthday night, Kai eventually drifted off to sleep as the early morning light continued to fill his room. His dreams were filled with memories of his parents and the laughter they once shared.

As the sun rose, casting a warm glow across the room, Nya, always full of youthful curiosity, decided it was time to join her big brother. With determination, she managed to escape from her crib, her tiny feet making soft thuds on the carpeted floor. She toddled her way to Kai's room.

Nya, standing on her tiptoes, leaned over Kai's bed. Her tiny fingers reached out, gently poking his nose. Kai stirred, his eyes slowly fluttering open. With a sleepy smile, he lifted his little sister from the side of the bed and cradled her in his arms.

Nya, always eager for her morning cuddles, snuggled under the warm blanket with Kai. However, as she nestled close to her brother, she noticed the melancholy in his eyes. Her own innocent gaze met his, and it was as if she could feel the heaviness in the room, the absence of their parents.

Kai held Nya closer, trying to hide his emotions, but he couldn't disguise the sadness that lingered in his eyes. He kissed her on the forehead, whispering softly, "Don't worry, Nya. Everything will be alright."

Nya, too young to understand the complexities of their situation, simply hugged her brother tightly. In that embrace, Kai found a glimmer of hope and comfort. He knew that even though they had faced tremendous loss, they still had each other, and the love between them would help them navigate the uncertainties that lay ahead.

Kai got up from his bed. He looked at the clock one last time, acknowledging the start of his seventh year, his first birthday without his parents.

After they had risen from the bed and gone through their morning routine, Kai and Nya found themselves in the kitchen. Kai, determined to keep some semblance of normalcy in their lives, was preparing a simple breakfast of scrambled eggs. Nya, her eyes still filled with innocence and curiosity, watched her brother's every move.

As Kai carefully tended to the eggs in the pan, Nya's gaze wandered to the calendar hanging on the kitchen wall. She pointed to the colorful cake drawing their mother had made on that day. "Cake?" she inquired, looking at Kai with a puzzled expression, eager to learn what this symbol meant.

Kai paused for a moment, considering whether to tell Nya the truth about the significance of the cake on the calendar. He knew that this day, his birthday, was typically celebrated with cake and joy, but in their current situation, it was far from a usual celebration.

With a soft smile, Kai decided that Nya deserved to know what a birthday was, even though their circumstances were less than ideal. He put the spatula down and knelt down to her level, gently explaining, "Nya, that means it's someones Birthday today." Nya still seemed puzzled. "A birthday is a special day when you get to celebrate being one year older. You have cake, and everyone wishes you well. It's a day to be happy and make special memories."

Nya's eyes sparkled with curiosity, and she tried to absorb this new information. "Tai's birthday?" she asked, her voice filled with innocence.

Kai nodded, his heart touched by his sister's attempt to understand. "Yes, today is my birthday," he confirmed, his eyes welling up with emotion. He felt a mixture of sadness and gratitude that Nya was there with him, even though their parents were absent.

Together, they stood in the quiet kitchen, marking a bittersweet moment. Kai returned to making breakfast, they shared their scrambled eggs.

After a hearty breakfast, Nya went to her room to indulge in her favorite pastime – drawing. The colorful crayons and pieces of paper transported her to a world of imagination, temporarily shielding her from the harsh reality that had befallen the two.

Downstairs in the blacksmith's shop, Kai worked tirelessly, hammering and shaping the hot metal into various pieces for his customers. The rhythmic clanging of metal against metal filled the air, and the intense heat from the forge washed over him. It was a respite from the thoughts that often weighed on his young mind.

However, as he worked, he felt a gentle tug on his shirt. At first, he didn't notice, engrossed in the task at hand. But Nya persisted, tugging a little more urgently. Kai finally turned his attention to his sister, carefully putting the hot metal aside and removing his protective gloves.

He knelt down to her level, concern etched on his face. "Nya, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice filled with love and worry. He knew that Nya didn't usually come into the blacksmith's shop while he was working, so her presence here meant something was amiss.

Nya, still too young to articulate her feelings, simply held out a drawing she had made. It was a picture of the two of them, standing side by side and holding hands. She wanted to share her artwork with her big brother, to let him know that she was there for him just as he had been there for her.

As Kai looked at the drawing that Nya had made, he realized the true significance of her actions. It wasn't just any drawing; it was a heartfelt birthday present from his little sister to him. The image of the two of them holding hands on the paper conveyed more love and support than any words could. He embraced her.

Tears welled up in Kai's eyes as he recognized the depth of Nya's affection and her desire to make his birthday special despite the difficult circumstances. He hugged Nya even tighter, holding the drawing close to his heart. "Thank you, Nya," he whispered, his voice filled with emotion. "This is the best birthday present I could ever receive."

Nya beamed with joy, her innocent smile lighting up the blacksmith's shop. She may not fully grasp the complexities of their situation, but she understood the importance of love and togetherness, and she wanted to share that with her beloved brother on his special day.

With the drawing in hand, Kai knew that even in the absence of their parents, he and Nya had a bond that could conquer any challenges they faced. It was a simple yet profound reminder that love and family could bring moments of happiness even in the darkest of times.

Sorry that there are two Kai birthday storys after each other. Now that my birthday is over I don't think there will be another any time soon 😅
