If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom. Which I guess a lot of people didn't agree with...

*****

I wake up and head the kitchen, pouring myself a glass of orange juice. I walk to the living room and sit on the couch as I reach for the remote, turning on a show and starting to watch it. I look over and see my older brother, Greg, coming towards me. Probably going to take the remote from me, like usual, and turn on whatever he wants to watch.

"Come, on, gimme that," He says as he rips the remote out of my hand, "my house, my rules. Now, let's see what the latest news is."

Ugh, news. Perhaps the most boring channel of them all, except for the weather channel. Sure I'm a straight A student and have a 3.9 GPA, so I can understand everything better then Greg does, and I'm only thirteen! Although I'm only thirteen, my teacher said that I'm smarter then any other kid in my class. so I took a test and got to be bumped up to the 9th grade.

"After a riot and many people fighting towards prison being shut down, they have finally got their way. Freeway's prison is now officially... free! So, prison is no longer a thing and police have decided to quit their job because so. The governor decided to uphold the law and take it away, because that's basically the next step. No more locked behind bars and more freedom! I'm Maria Lemington, peace out." The news reporter finished as Greg shut off the tv.

"No more law- Jack, do you know what this means?" Greg asks me in excitement.

"That now there will be even more of a riot? That no as long as were in Freeway, no where here is safe? That we have to move?" I asked, almost hyperventilating.

He looked me with a reassuring look, "No, now that we can't go to jail and there are no police, we can do whatever we want! We don't have to live in a crappy home anymore, and we can be the richest people in the world!"

I didn't know exactly what to say to that, or really think. I mean, he does have a point; we can do whatever we want and not get in trouble for it. But is it safe? With everyone else also knowing that there is no 'illegal' things to do in Freeway, crazy people could kill people, and the people that were in the prison for murder might continue doing so!

Seeing as all of these possibilities could be bad, I wasn't fully on board with his 'plan'. I didn't say it, though, because with no law, I'm not even sure I can trust me own brother anymore with how he's acting.

It seemed too good to be true to him, but to me, it just felt like a total nightmare. You never know how people could act when there's no law, you can only take their word for it. Most people from school I can trust, but others seem like they've almost been waiting for this.

"Come on, Jack. It's a weekend, you don't have school, and we can do whatever we want! What do you say, you coming?" Greg asked me.

I thought for a moment, "Fine, but only because I don't want to be left here alone. With no law, I think anyone would love to break in to a house with no one but a kid who looks 10. Although," I said, working up a plan, "I'm sure that people would love to break in to a house that no one's in any more, right? Probably trash it, take some stuff, you know?"

I knew I had backed Greg into a corner with that one. He loves this house and had just recently paid off the rest of his loan for it. He acts like it's his baby or something, so there's no way he would want to leave now.

"Meh, we'll just take some money from a local grocery store. What are they gonna do about it, call the police? Ha ha!" Greg exclaimed. He's scaring me even more.

My eyes widen in disbelief as I think of Greg's craziness. I run up to my room, Greg scoffing at my cowardness. I can't believe him! All of a sudden this new law to get rid of one of the best laws we have comes along, and Greg has acted like he's the boss now!
