Growing up Anna, a brave 17 year old girl, always wanted to know why. Why did her father die? Why did her mom have to be sick? Why did things always go wrong? Why did the only boy she ever loved break her heart? Why should she keep trying when, in the end, she'll always fail?

Jack, a scared 17 year old boy, has always coasted through life, never really asking why. It doesn't matter why his dad left him when he was merely six. His reasons wouldn't fix his scars. It doesn't matter why his mom abuses him, he'll be away from her at by end of the year.

So, what happens when their world's collide as they're thrust into the same high school? Will the scared boy and the brave girl find something in common? Is bravery any different from being scared and still trying? Are these two opposites, really the same?
