Quick warning before I start cringing at myself once you guys point it out, I may have some grammar errors and typos so I apologize

She groaned as she heard the loud ringing of her alarm clock. She sits up and rubs her eyes, thinking about what happened last night. She felt a stinging sensation on her arms and legs, especially her face.
She forgot how she got them. But she doesn't care.

She turns to see her friend asleep. He just woke up as well, seeing her and smiling at her. He sat up beside her and saw her expression being unsatisfied.

"What's wrong?"
"It's nothing, I just don't feel... okay," April said, getting up from her small bed with her childish body. She looked around her room that was decorated with colorful decorations and fairy lights that were yet still off.

April stopped the alarm, yawning as she looked at her friend getting up as well. He was rubbing his eyes and yawning slightly.

April opened the window in her room, feeling the fresh breeze of the wind crash swiftly on her skin. Mikey felt it too, he shivered.

She looked down at her arms, seeing no cuts or bruises. But somehow, they stung. Her arms felt damaged, including her legs and face. She stared at herself in the mirror for a while, until she saw Mikey's reflection. He looked concerned.

"You hungry?"
"Totally. I can eat a whole cow!" She chuckled, and so did he. They ran out the room and carefully walked down the stairs to see April's father on the couch sleeping. He was snoring quite loudly and looked relaxed.

April went up to him quietly and shook his arm a bit. "Dad~" she whispered. He responded with a snore. She turned to Mikey who shrugged. "Cmon, lets just go make breakfast for ourselves."

April and Mikey walked to the kitchen to meet April's mother arriving through the kitchen door that leads outside. She was happy and cheerful, smiling down at April and April only. Mikey frowned very slightly. But he ignored it, like April's mother ignoring him the whole time they were eating breakfast.

The clock struck 12 pm in the afternoon and the two of them went out to play in the backyard.

They laughed, they giggled, they ran around chasing each other and tagging one another and squealing happily.

Once they got tired of running around, they sat down on the wooden swings and took deep breaths.

Mikey had something in his mind. He felt anxious. He felt like a ghost to everyone, except April who loved him dearly as a friend. He loved her back.

April looked at him and sighed, "Today was a great day, Mike. I'm glad you're my friend."

"Me too, April," He smiled at her warmly and ignored the fact that he was upset. He wanted to focus on her. He wanted to make sure she thought of herself as the most amazing person in the entire world.

Once they walked back in the house, April's father was awake. A belt in his hand, wrapped around his fingers, and a bottle of alcohol in his other hand, but he saw April and smiled. "Hey sweetheart,"

"Hey Dad," She said quietly. Mikey looked at the two of them, especially her father. He glared at him slightly.

Her father approached her slowly, but then Mikey stood in front of her. "Stop! Don't touch her!"
But Mikey felt a cold sensation in his body, suddenly seeing that her father wasn't in front of him anymore. He didn't bother to look back once he heard her scream.

After what seemed like hours, Mikey just stood there. He questioned his existence. He looked at his hands and saw that they started to slowly fade. He heard a loud thud and saw that April's father fell onto the bed. He looked like a mess.

Finally, Mikey turned around and saw April, crying. He approached her slowly. "April..."

She looked up at him, sitting in the corner of the living room and curled up in a ball. Mikey continued to fade.

April's home started to darken. The fairy lights from her room faded into peelings of paint from the wall, her mother started to look stressed out and cried in the kitchen.

April looked at her arms and legs and saw the cuts to which the stinging was coming from. Her cheek was bruised, and she had a black eye. Tears fell down her cheeks.

Everything was dark, gloomy and dismal, all except Mikey was glowing a bright yellow and fading at the same time.

"April, what am I? Who am I? No one seems to see me. I'm just a ghost, aren't I? ...April?" Suddenly, he felt like April couldn't even hear him anymore. But with one last phrase before he disappeared and everything turned dark, April said "You're just in my imagination."
