[In Jeff's Point of view]

Three weeks. That was all I was supposed to wait for until I see her again but it wasn't as easy as it seemed.  It was as if time never moved and that I had to wait for an eternity in hell.

There were times I tried escaping from the house but none of the attempts worked.
I was caught once by my father.

I was sneaking out of the house. Stealthily, I began to approach the main gate. I was able to make it out of the main door. I heard voices upstairs. It was my father and his friends.

That was the best moments I could sneak out because he becomes less attentive when his friends came over.

Quietly, I opened the door. The back yard was empty, no one was there.

My father was overly concerned with security that he would have his security men all over the house but none was here.
Everything seemed odd but perfect for my escape.

I knew my escape wouldn't be that easy when I had that idea but what I was seeing was too easy to be true. I shrugged off the odd feeling and moved ahead.

I crossed through the backyard to the wall and was ready to climb my way up when I heard my father's deep manly voice hit me from behind.

"Stand there young man!"

I froze. I couldn't breath, it felt as if someone was choking me. My heart was racing and all I could do was wished he didn't kill me. It seemed as if this was the end of the road for me.

"What were you trying to do?" he howled.

I stood there in silence. One thing I noticed about him or worse all African parents was that you better not answer the question they ask you when they catch you in an act.

Chances are they really saw what you were doing but will ask you that question only for you to lie to put yourself in more trouble.

"Didn't you hear what I asked?!" he asked again this time walking closer. I still didn't answer.

"You better get back to the house and stop living under the delusion that you can leave this house.!" he added.

I left and that was the last I tried escaping not that I will succeed if I tried again anyway.

I was left with only two choices; to stay in the house and wait for the three weeks to be over so I could see Sav or try to escape again and get caught so I could spend the rest of my life locked up in the house.

Both choices weren't what I wanted but I chose the former as hard as it was.

It became even harder when all my messages and calls to Sav weren't going through.

She wasn't replying my messages nor answering my calls. Each time I called, I would reach her voicemail.

"Hello. You have reached Savannah. Sorry I'm not available right now, but if you leave a message, I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thank you."

The voice on the other line would say.

Some days, I would just hung up right after I heard the voice. Others too, I would leave a message hoping she'd reply when she received it.

"Hey Sav... It's me again Jeff. I have been trying to reach you for days now but no reply. I am getting worried please call back when you hear this."

Time passed both in slow motion and in a flash. There were some days that time didn't move and there were days that everything moved fast. The hand of time turned seconds into minutes; minutes into days; days into weeks and finally the three weeks were up.

My suspension was over. So was my little house arrest.

At this time, my father seemed a little satisfied with the kind of hell he had given me for locking me up in the house for three weeks and so decided to let go of his grudge against me. He finally talked to me and offered to take back to school.

I was very glad to be back on campus but the examination that morning and the fact that I'd been out of school for three weeks got me very worried.

I had miss a lot of classes and so I was worried about what I was going to write in the exams that I couldn't even go to Sav's hostel.

I was hoping to see her before or after the exams but I didn't. I searched for her at every corner of the school after exams but I couldn't find her anywhere until I crossed paths with Adobi in the hallway.

"Adobi.. Could you wait for a second." I called after her.

"Oh hello Jeff what is it?" she gave me a faint smile.

"It's nothing big just that I didn't see Sav during the exams. Do you happen to know where she is? I've been calling her line for days now and it doesn't go through either."
W

orry overtook my face as I explained to her.

"Well I don't. Besides why should you care?" she said feigning annoyance.

"Oh God...Not you too Adobi. You know I wouldn't disappoint her for nothing. I was prevented from leaving my house."

"Seriously Jeff.. She became very sad after you didn't show up you know Sav. You caused her more suffering than her...." she hesitated.

"Her what? Adobi talk. What are you two hiding?"

"It's nothing Jeff. What I meant was you let her down and she didn't take it likely." she said taking her gaze away from me.

"I have a feeling you are hiding something from me Adobi. You know I love and care about your friend genuinely and so you will be doing her and me a favor if you tell me what this is. Does this have something to do with what she wanted to tell me?"
I

questioned.

"Forgive me Jeff but I can't tell you anything. It was a directive from her and I can't betray her trust. That's the least I can do for her before...." she hesitated. Again.

"Before what Adobi!?" I was ready to force the truth out of her whatever way possible.

"It's ok relax. You know what? let's move from here to somewhere safe then I will tell you." she assured.

We walked from the hallway to the school cafeteria which was one of the places you could get actual privacy in the school.

I ordered a smoothie for the both us but I couldn't take a look at mine. At least not until I had heard what Adobi was hiding.

"OK we are here don't keep me waiting."
I hissed. The suspense was killing me.

She stopped midway whiles sipping her smoothie, took a deep breath and looked away.

I sat there looking at her in disdain.
I didn't believe she could enjoy a smoothie whiles she left me in anxiety or was it her own way of dealing with the intensity of what she was about to tell me?

"Ermm Jeff the thing is, Sav is dying...." she paused.

The whole place became pitch dark immediately I heard that.

It was like I was alone in a dark room with no sound. I could no longer heard the chattering in the cafeteria nor see anything.  The only sound I could hear was my pounding heart.

What do you think Jeff will do now that he knows the truth?
What do you think is wrong with Sav?
