To be honest, Ami has ulterior motives. In her country, no matter how modernized, it is not in the culture for women to be in positions of Power. No matter how qualified Ami is, it's not traditional for her to lead her country. At least in Illea she has a chance at becoming queen. Like anybody, deep down she craves love, but that it not her priority. Her best case scenario would be an equally beneficial arrangement with the King, or whatever and whoever would benefit her best. She's not cold hearted and manipulative, however she is determined, capable, and smart, and she wishes to have an impact on the world.
