❝ People will do anything to hide the truth; don't let them silence you ❞

Summer was a time of endless possibilities. Some people did nothing, some people did everything. There were internships and parties and road trips to be had. A time for people to find themselves, to discover new interests, to find love. For three teens in the greater New York area, the pull of summer brought them all under the air-conditioned roof of the Daily Bugle for the free summer internship where teenagers interested in the field of journalism could get a real world experience with the necessary supervision and coaching.

For Betty Brant, it was no surprise that she was participating. Her mother being J. Jonah Jameson's "Girl Friday," it was no surprise that Betty followed in her mother's footsteps, aspiring to be one of the top reporters for The Daily Bugle, already starting her burgeoning career on Midtown High's News Show. Alongside her was August Feliciano who was returning for his second year after being dragged along by Betty who had insisted he get his foot in the door. For the both of them, it was just another summer at the Daily Bugle.

But then came in Mason Mitty. A boy who quite literally stumbled into the orientation, he found himself in charge of the brand-new relationship column, a section almost given to Betty if not for Mason's insistence that she didn't have to simply because she was a girl, which caught the attention of both Betty and August who were more than keen to befriend anyone with any form of human decency.

With something to occupy their time, the trio found themselves thrust into their own little worlds, Mason trying to give relationship advice while struggling to find a relationship of his own, August and Betty trying to uncover and report on the darker goings on in the greater New York area, all while maintaining whatever social lives they had.

But as the summer days continued to pass, the three soon found themselves chasing down a conspiracy that was bigger than them, bigger than anyone else that they knew, and as they found themselves becoming more invested, they had to wonder at what point do the reporters become part of the story; and at what point does curiosity truly kill the cat.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the first Betty Brant fic on this site, I could be wrong, but this is definitely the first poly Betty Brant fic, so I at least have that going for me. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do this, but this fic sort of wrote itself after all the slight cameos and hints towards it in my Flash Thompson fic, Moon Boy, where Matthew Mitty is from, and my Michelle Jones fic, Love Bug, where we also shed light on Jameson's son, John Jameson III. I couldn't help myself, I love this concept, and it was initially going to just be Betty and Matty, but then I discovered Peter Maldonado from American Vandal and I just couldn't help myself.

So, at the time of posting this, J.Jonah Jameson is not in the MCU, and I wanted to cast Terry Crews for him, but then I decided to keep him white because I think that his being a straight cisgender white man as he is in the comics adds a layer to him when you thrust his character into the modern MCU. Because J.Jonah Jameson is a complex man who is seen as a good man, he advocates for equal rights and is just so three-dimensional, so I figured that having a white man be such a vocal ally would be something I couldn't pass up, so I love Terry Crews and I do believe he'll make a great Jameson, but I decided to use Jon Hamm because he's the white man I want to use, and a white man is what I want to explore.

So this is going to be a fic that ties in with a lot of other fics, and while this is a part of a series, I want you guys to be aware that it is going to feature characters and original arcs from other stories, such as the group from my Gwen Stacy fic, Sunbeam Smile, and the Wolf Spiders in my Natasha Romanoff fic, Human Condition, so just be warned if you're confused, that's where they're from, but take everything at face value, almost everything is explained either in the text itself, or in the author's notes.

【 This takes place in my Hero of Heroes series and while you don't need to have read the other fics in the series to understand what is going on, you can if you so wish as characters from this fic may appear in others and vice versa 】
