There was silence. Cars lay in piles on the roads, some with broken windows. The ninja arrived in a hover-copter and hopped out.

''What happened?'' Kai asked the others, looking around.

''No power, that's what happened,'' Cole answered.

''Are we too late?'' Zane asked.

Seeing a tripwire, (Y/n) stopped. The other boys kept walking and stepped on it. The pile of cars crumbled, making them take a step back.

''Outsiders must answer to the Postman!'' Said a man with a shovel in his hands, standing atop of the heap of cars.

The group of Ninjago civilians held whatever they could find for weapons, looking down at the ninja.

''Return to sender!'' The Postman shouted, holding a wooden spoon in his hands. The civilians cheered, while Kai shrugged, looking at Jay.

Cyrus Borg appeared atop the pile, in his wheelchair. ''Ah, you finally made it. Don't mind the savages. Since power went out, everyone here has grown a bit bored. Their imagination knows no bounds.'' He told them, before noticing Pixal with Nya. ''P.I.X.A.L., amazing! You're...powered.''

''You need to stay in character, Borg. This is no fun if we're not all committed.'' The Postman said, looking at the inventor.

''Oh, I'll have you committed if you don't all leave us at once. Now shoo!'' Borg told them, they groaned and left. ''We have real problems to address. P.I.X.A.L., what's powering you?''

The female android looked over at the Orange Ninja. ''(Y/n) here has used her powers to keep me powered.'' She answered.

''Thank you, (Y/n). I am greatly indebted.'' The inventor told her with a smile. ''Unfortunately, the hard drive was stolen with the digital imprint of the Overlord. You'll be unable to erase him with your Techno Blades until we find it.''

''Aw, don't worry, we already had a little run-in with the red-handed suspect. Or, should I say white-handed? He left behind a white scale. Get this, he's Serpentine.'' Jay replied, holding up the bleached scale.

''Unh.'' Cole took off the cover for a manhole with his strength. ''Lucky for us, the last Serpentine were sealed within a tomb right under the city, so it's about time we pay them a little visit.''

(Y/n) went in first, followed by Nya, then Cole.

''Approach with caution. I've also lost a few valuable prototypes. He may be armed and extremely dangerous.'' Cyrus told them.

''We know, and uh, ahem, just for the record, when those prototypes are made available to the public, could you let me know? They're just the coolest gadgets.'' Jay asked the inventor, before disappearing into the hole.

The others followed, except for Pixal, who was needed by Cyrus Borg.

''Watch your step, Nya. We don't know the last time this ladder was used.'' Cole said, looking down at her.

''That's thoughtful of you, Cole,'' Nya replied.

''Hey! How about you watch where you're watching, Cole? Huh?'' Jay asked, looking down at the Earth Ninja.

''Uh, aah!'' Nya panicked as the rung she stepped on broke. ''Uh, guys. A little help?''

''Oh, is that a threat? 'Cause coming from you, it sounds like some of your best material.'' The Earth Ninja told the Lightning Ninja.

''Hahaha! There's a reason nobody liked you.'' Jay replied.

''Aah!'' Nya fell but was caught by (Y/n), who was waiting at the bottom of the ladder. Nya blushed, looking at the other girl who was doing the same. (Y/n) gently put her down, and turned her face away from the girl so her face couldn't be seen.

''Boys.'' (Y/n) mumbled, while Nya brought out a glowstick.

Jay and Cole came down the ladder. ''It was his fault!'' The two said, pointing at each other.

''Let's keep our eyes peeled. Our mystery suspect could be anywhere down here.'' Zane told them.

''Serpentine. Never thought I'd see them again.'' Kai said, with the others holding glowsticks.

''Tomb of the Stone Army. It's been sealed since the Serpentine were trapped here.'' Kai said as they approached the tomb.

''It appears the seal has been opened,'' Zane said, and they heard Skales whistling and they turned to see the Hypnobrai General.

''Aah! Not you again!'' Skales said, seeing them.

''Skales. Something told me you'd be behind this. Search his bag.'' Cole replied, frowning.

''Aah! This is harassment. I've done nothing wrong.'' The Hypnobrai General told them as they took his bag.

''Except steal the hard drive. Where is it? What are you hiding?'' Jay asked, looking at the snake.

Kai searched his bag. ''He's hiding...groceries? And the latest issue of Ninjago Times.''

Remo rolled his eyes, appearing on (Y/n)'s shoulder. ''Don't assume things.'' The silver snake said, sighing.

'Well, they are.' Morro said.

''What can I say? I'm a sucker for the crossword. Sorry, you've got the wrong snake.'' Skales said, taking back his newspaper.

''Daddy? Are you okay?'' Said a young Hypnobrai serpentine wearing a hoodie.

''Stay inside, Skales Jr.'' said a pink Hynobrai female snake.

''Skales Jr.? Uh, you have a son?'' Kai asked awkwardly.

''We've been busy since you left us. And we prefer to keep it that way.'' Skales replied, slithering over to Selma and Skales Jr.

''Is this about the Golden Master? Is he going to hurt us?'' Skales Jr asked his father, hugging him.

''That is only a story, son. They were just leaving.'' Skales told his son.

''Golden Master? Is this about Lloyd?'' Zane questioned them.

''Like you, we have our own legends. But I guess in ours, you are the bad guys.'' The Hypnobrai General answered.

''What legend?'' Nya asked.

''They have a right to know. If we're going to shed a new skin, we must open our home to others.'' Selma told her husband.

''Oh, all right. Let's go, surface dwellers. If you'd like to hear of the Curse of the Golden Master, follow me.'' Skales told them, before turning and entering the tomb.

''I don't like Serpentine, but I don't like curses either. If this has anything to do with Lloyd, we need to know.'' Kai said, and they followed Skales inside the tomb.

Entering what was once the tomb of the Stone Warriors, the ninja found themselves in an underground community for snakes.

''After a rather humbling scrap with those indestructible Stone Warriors, we've made amends with our warring past and found ways to help better ourselves,'' Skales told the group, leading them through it.

''You're not thugs, you give hugs.'' Said a Hypnobrai to two constrictai.

''Try again. "It will be our pleasure."'' Said a venomari to Fangtom.

''It will be...'' Said Fang. ''-our pleasure.'' Finished Tom.

A familiar fangpyre snake waved at (Y/n), a smile on his face. (Y/n) waved back.

''So you got a few snakes to go straight. Doesn't mean there's not one bad apple. Fangpyre have white scales, don't they?'' Kai asked the Hypnobrai General.

Remo frowned at his tone towards the serpentine general, and turned to (Y/n), who shook her head.

''A few. Is this about the missing hard drive?'' Skales questioned.

''This is about the Overlord,'' Cole answered.

''Ah, the Overlord. Glad we weren't around for that mess. No, we have no desire to meddle in the affairs above. As you can see, we stick to our own. We only want what's best for the next generation. Have a seat. You could learn a thing or two about your beloved Golden Master.'' Skales told them, guiding them to a campfire with seats, and they sat down.

''Hello, hatchlings, and camouflaged land dwellers. Do you seek to learn about the Curse of the Golden Master?'' Acidicus asked as he approached the group.

''Tell me! Tell me!'' Jay exclaimed, raising his hand. (Y/n) smiled, chuckling as she looked at Jay.

''Ugh. Then everyone come closer.'' Acidicus told them, before spitting venom into the fire.

''When the First Spinjitzu Master created Ninjago, deep in the ground, he created the Serpentine.''

The fire showed a silhouette of a man with a golden sword, who made Serpentine with staffs appear, rising from the ground.

''Since the first dawn, our elders knew of the Curse of the Golden Master, when he who had the powers equal to the First Spinjitzu Master would rise and usher in the last of the setting suns.''

A group of four serpentine appeared, conversing. In the background was a village, and soon the silhouette of a giant with red eyes and armour appeared.

''With no equal adversary, his power will go unmatched. His destructive rule will change the face of the world, and he will not stop until every man, woman, and Serpentine are enslaved under his control.''

Lightning sparked from the giant silhouette's hands, making the serpentine turn and slither away.

''Is he referring to Lloyd?'' Zane asked, and Kai shrugged, not knowing the answer.

''The Serpentine tried to warn the land dwellers, but they wouldn't listen. They thought we were the enemy, though we were only trying to prevent the prophecy of the Golden Master's terrible reign.''

The background was blue as the serpentine generals tried to warn the villagers, the background slowly turning red as they threw their pitchforks at the retreating serpentine.

''After the Great Devourer failed to scare the unbelievers below ground, it is we who retreated beneath the soil, promising to never return, even now that the end is inevitable.''

The background was purple as villagers stood victorious over the Great Devourer, while the serpentine retreated below the surface, a wall separating them from the outside world. The same giant silhouette with red eyes appeared.

''I can't believe they think Lloyd could become the Golden Master,'' Kai told the others.

''Well, he is the son of Lord Garmadon,'' Jay replied.

''What I want to know is, if none of them took the hard drive, who else could it be?'' Nya asked.

''We're under attack! Protect the young!'' Cried a venomari. The serpentine screamed as they ran from the Overlord's nindroids.

''Nindroids!'' Cole shouted, seeing them.

''Ugh! These toasters never know when to quit.'' Jay replied, annoyed.

''I can't believe I'm saying this, but protect the Serpentine!'' Kai ordered the others.

''Ninja go!'' The boys shouted, doing spinjitzu.

''What evil have you brought here?'' Skales asked (Y/n).

''My apologies. We didn't know we were being followed.'' The Orange Ninja replied.

Nya used her metal fan to block an attack from a nindroid, before using it to hit the nindroid away from her.

''Junior? Junior!'' Selma shouted as she looked for her son, before seeing him.

''Mommy! Aah!'' Junior shouted in reply before Cryptor tripped him.

Cryptor laughed, looking down at the young serpentine. ''So you're the future of the fearless Serpentine?'' He asked, laughing again before Kai kicked him in the face.

''And you're about to be history,'' Kai told him.

''Let's get 'em, guys,'' Cole said to the others, who pinned Cryptor down. He got up, throwing them off him.

Cryptor grabbed Cole's feet and threw him into the other boys. Zane helped Jay stand up. ''Hey, thanks.'' The Earth Ninja fell onto them.

''Ugh. If we could figure out what powered them, this would all be a whole lot easier.'' Jay told the others.

The nindroids ran forward, and the ninja fought them. Kai used a stalagmite to swing around and hit a pair of nindroids. Jay hopped over a stalagmite to strike a nindroid, saving Nya. Cole backflipped off a wall, noticing a tank on a nindroid's back, he then unplugged the tank from the nindroid.

(Y/n) kicked two nindroids into a wall, and Remo used his fangs to unplug the tank from the nindroids.

''Hey! They're powered by some sort of eel thing inside their backs!'' Cole told the others.

''Ninja, go!'' The boys shouted as they did spinjitzu, cheering as they disabled all of them. Jay was about to get hit by a nindroid, but it stopped, and Nya appeared, chuckling. Jay then pushed the nindroid, making it fall down with the others like dominoes.

''Foolish Nindroid, you are helping the wrong side.'' Said a nindroid with purple eyes, grabbing Zane's heel.

''The Overlord! You'll never succeed. Not if we have anything to say about it.'' Zane replied, looking down at him.

''I already have.'' The Overlord told him, laughing. ''You've unknowingly led me straight to the Golden Ninja. And this was merely a diversion to keep you busy.'' The Overlord kept laughing until Zane pulled his plug.

'I said it would be a risk.' Morro told her, making (Y/n) sigh.

''The boy holds too much power. I fear the Curse of the Golden Master is upon us.'' Skales said, glancing around.

''The dawn of the end of times is near,'' Acidicus told the group.

''We have to get to Lloyd before they do. Are you sure you won't help us?'' Nya asked.

''I'm sorry. We made an oath never to return to the surface. Good luck.'' He told them, and they turned to leave. ''Oh, one more thing. There's only one Serpentine whose had a history of being so fond of using Electrocobrai.'' Skales told them.

''Who?'' They asked.

''Pythor.''
