So, this summer was basically a time for me to be more anime trash than ever. Like last summer was kpop, the summer before that was I think Kingdom Hearts, and now this summer was anime. I'm here to talk, analyze the animes I've watched this summer.

Anime #1

Shingeki No Kyojin / Attack on Titan (2013)

Status: Finished Airing / April 7, 2013 - September 29, 2013

Genres: Action, Drama, Fantasy, Shounen, Superpower

My thoughts:

Honestly, say what you want, it's overrated, underrated, whatever, Snk is probably a must-watch. I decided to give it a rewatch once I saw it available on Netflix, and I finished it within two days, I believe? It's a bit crazy since I've read the manga and it's a different story if you've read the manga, let me tell you that, you'll be less confused-- read the manga!! But the anime itself is very good, the animation is very different than most animes, the soundtrack is pretty different too than other animes, the cast is very diverse, and man, I'd say try not to get attached to anyone because you never know, but you can't help not too, because the characters are just so lovable and amazing. No matter what people say about this series, it remains one of my top favorite anime. If you are uncomfortable with body horror and blood, then you might want to sit this one out, or try to find a censored version if they do that.

The story is rather simple to understand. Mankind is under attack under these unknown creatures named Titans, your typical local teen is thrown into a corrupted world now they must save the world from these creatures. We follow Eren Jaeger who's probably the most angsty teen I've ever seen in anime, along with his friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert. But believe me, once you start this anime, you are hooked! I think I've watched like 10 a day or something, I couldn't stop, especially when you watch it for the first time. It's about 25 episodes, 30 minutes long, the typical, but it's a jam-packed 30 minutes, there's so much in one episode.

We are finally getting the second season next spring which I'm very excited for. I hope the openings + endings are just as good, and they bring to life a lot of crucial points in the manga, which will surprise a lot of those anime-only fans.

Anime #2

Orange (2016)

Status: Currently airing / July 4, 2016 - Unknown

Genres: Drama, Romance, School, Sci-Fi, Shoujo

My thoughts:

This is probably the only 'new' anime that I've watched. To put it simply, I love this anime. I fell in love with it the first episode. I had no idea the real details of the plot, but boy, I was in for a total tear-jerker the first episode. And I thought it was just me being sad over Bleach, but I cried every single episode. The plot is not like your typical, light-hearted shoujo, this anime goes in deeper, beyond typical shoujo antics. The animation is beautiful, one of the kind, and the characters you completely adore!

The plot is simply Naho Takamiya receives a letter from her future self, asking her to ease the regrets she's made, and to ultimately change the future outcome of a transfer student named Kakeru Naruse. This anime is definitely a tear-jerker, and if you're a crier like me, you'll probably cry after every episode.

This anime grew very close and dear to my heart because I was able to relate to the characters like Naho, and Kakeru especially. I won't go into details here, but needless to say, it brought back some past memories of things I've dealt with, and I was surprised to see them being presented in an anime. It does a wonderful job, and I'm really enjoying the series so far, it's quite nice to take a step back from fantasy genres, and to step into the real world for a bit.

Anime #3

Noragami Aragoto (2015)

Status: Finished Airing / October 3, 2015 - December 26, 2015

Genres: Action, Adventure, Shounen, Supernatural

My thoughts:

I had to. Once I rewatched the opening of Aragoto, I knew I had to rewatch this series again. I love this show, oh my gosh, it combines a good blend of humor, fantasy, and adventure. As if Noragami couldn't get any better, man, Aragoto blows everything out of the water. It's incredible and definitely a must that you've seen the first season. I'm still trying to wrap my head around Yato's character, God of Calamity but also a huge dweeb that wanted to visit Capypa Land with Hiyori... there's two sides of him, and I just love that. Plus, you love the silly, quirky cast of characters from Yukine, Bishamon, and Kofuku.

It's basically a continuation from first season, Yato is an unknown god with his faithful 'servant' or they call, Regalia, Yukine, and their friend, Hiyori. It goes much into depth to the really, the plot of the manga, expanding characters like Kazuma and Bishamon, and introducing new ones like Ebisu and Fujisaki. Like Snk, it's also best to read the manga of the series! It's really good, and there's so much in it!

I'm hoping and praying for a third season because there's so much more in the manga, holy crap, the Yatori gets more real. I fall in love with this series everytime, if you haven't checked out this series, you're missing out, it's amazing!

Anime #4

Bleach (2004)

Status: Finished Airing / October 5, 2004 - March 27, 2012

Genres: Action, Comedy, Shounen, Superpower, Supernatural

My thoughts:

To be quite honest, I think I have a thing for supernatural types of anime, haha. Yes, the 366 episodes seems to daunting, but here me out, it's worth it. This series, despite being so outdated, still stands the best of it's time. The series in my opinion is probably the best shounen out of the big three-- Naruto and One Piece-- Bleach was apart of the big three most popular shounen in Japan. There's so many things I love about this series, the characters, the plot, the music, the animation, the openings, and endings. I believe the animation still stands the best even to today. If you ever think about picking up this series, let me tell you the proper way to watch it, since it's been unfortunately plagued by pointless filters.

The plot is about high school student Ichigo Kurosaki who can see ghosts, but when he encounter a shinigami or death god or soul reaper (there's a lot of terms for the word) Rukia Kuchiki, his world is instantly changed, since Rukia transfers her powers to him so he can protect his family. There's so much more the plot, but that's the jist of it. You'll learn more about the plot as you watch. This too also has a manga, which I would recommend, but I think for now, you should stick to the anime since the series ultimately faced a bitter end, and no one likes the end and there's so many things wrong with it.

It's an amazing series, you'll cry, laugh, and cheer on the characters. Heck, my most favorite character of all time, comes from this series. The best arc in everyone's opinion is the Soul Society arc, which is basically the first 60 something episodes of the series, I believe that arc is what made Bleach stand out from the other shounen series. It's a good series and if you're looking for a good shounen to watch, take up this one instead of Naruto or One Piece.

There you have it! The main four animes I've watched and obsessed over all summer. I plan to do another segment, as I do have some other animes to watch and rewatch. But give your thoughts below! And if you have any recommendation for me, comment away! I love finding new anime to watch.
