Bright, spring rainbows had begun to fade to their rich, fall colors. The trees started to loose their leaves one by one. The weather was just right for Katie Lynn to wear a comfortable sweater and boots.

She sat on her parent's front porch reading a book and enjoying the fresh air. Her senior year had started only a month ago and already she felt like she was a college student. Stop that Katie! Next year you'll be in college, but for now enjoy high school.

Katie Lynn could hardly focus on the book she was reading. She had been staring at the same page for almost an hour. As she looked up, Katie could see a blur of red. Curious, Katie approached the edge of the porch to see if she could find who or what she had seen. All Katie Lynn found was a nicely folded note with her name on it.

Katie Lynn,

Follow the trail of leaves.

Love,
Vicktor

Confused by the note in her hand, Katie Lynn looked up to see a perfect trail of leaves on the side walk. Placing the book in her hands down, Katie followed the trail. Each step made her more and more curious. She almost felt like a cat.

As she walked along the trail, the leaves changed colors. They went from a vibrant red all the way to a delicate brown. When Katie looked closely, she could see little arrows drawn onto each leaf. Smiling to herself, Katie Lynn picked up her pace to see what was in store for her.

Vicktor is such a sweet boyfriend. He would go through all of this just to surprise me. It makes me love him even more than I thought possible.

On the final leaf, there was a note attached to it.

Katie Lynn,

You've made it to the end. Now, turn around.

Love,
Vicktor

"What in the world?" Katie Lynn turned around. She came face to face with her loving boyfriend. "Vicktor!"

"I thought, since it's such a nice day, maybe we should have a treat." Vicktor raised his hands up to reveal a picnic basket. He smiled. "What do you say? Want to have a picnic with me?"

Breathless, Katie Lynn simply nodded her head. She grabbed the blanket from under Vicktor's arm and helped him set up. Within a few minutes, the love birds had an entire feast of treats.

There were fresh pastries, fruit, sandwiches, sodas, water, teas; everything needed for the perfect picnic date. The best part for Katie Lynn, was sharing this moment with her adoring boyfriend. He went through all this trouble to surprise her.

Without meaning to, she blurted out, "What did I do to deserve you?"

Vicktor was taken aback by his girlfriend's statement. "What do you mean?"

"I don't know. You just seem so perfect and I have no idea what I did to be with you." Katie Lynn glanced at the grown.

Vicktor slowly approached the doubting girl and lifted her head to see her eyes. "You did absolutely everything. You became my friend, made me laugh, made me cry, made me fall in love. If anything, I should be asking you this question."

Katie smiled softly as she held Vicktor's hand against her cheek. "I love you Vicktor."

"I love you more Katie Lynn."

"I love you most." Katie's smile had grown to full smile.

Still holding her hand, Vicktor began to plate the delicious goodies. Catching the hint, Katie too plated some food for herself. The couple spent the rest of the afternoon smiling and making memories.

As Vicktor walked Katie Lynn home, Katie could only think about her wonderful afternoon. She never wanted it to end. Though, when the two stood infront of Katie's door, the entire world stood still.

Time did not seem to move as Vicktor leaned in and kissed his girlfriend. When he pulled away, Katie Lynn had a loving look in her eyes. "Thank you for this afternoon Vicktor. It was wonderfully perfect."

"I'm glad. Because you only deserve the best." Vicktor glanced at his watch. "I should get going, but I truly love you Katie Lynn."

"I love you more Vicktor."

"I love you most." Katie smiled as she kissed her boyfriend one more time.

When they parted, Katie Lynn waved as Vicktor walked away. She followed his every move until he was out of sight. Slowly, Katie sat on her front porch once again and relived the events of the afternoon.

The End
