He hadn't been thinking.

That had been the root cause of it all. He had been blinded by his sadness, blinded by his fury, and blinded by his fear.

The gun slipped from his fingers and clattered to the ground, it's sound seeming to ring in his ears. He stepped back shocked by what he had done. His mouth moved rapid fire as he cursed, shouted, and screamed soundlessly while he stared at what he had done. His eyes were glued to the spot where his one time best friend who lay motionless on the ground, a bullet lodged in his neck, one of his hands still wrapped around it attempting to stop the crimson fountain which had spouted.

"I'm sorry," he whispered finally finding his own voice. "I'm so sorry- I didn't mean- none of this was supposed to happen. I just- I don't even know if there's a word for it. I was sad, mad, and scared and-" he faltered as tears began to spill from his eyes so he shut them tightly and wiped at them furiously to no avail. A sob shook his body, and then another, they kept coming, and coming. His body was wracking as the sobs stole control of his own body. All of it together made it hard for him to even breathe. He wanted it to stop, he needed it to stop so he could get out of here before someone found him. He needed to leave before someone found out.

The sound of something moving caught his ear, and his eyes flew open. In the back of his mind he wondered when he had sunk to his knees, he stood and turned around looking. When he deemed it safe he slowly and silently began making his way toward the door. He was nearly home free when arms wrapped around him and a voice sounded in his ear.

"It's nice to know you care man."

A scream escaped his lips as he moved forward out of the arms reach. He turned around and stared into the eyes of the same person who should be lying dead on the floor. Instead he stood covered in blood watching him as he tossed a crushed bullet up and down in the air.

"What's the matter Riley?" He asked taking a step forward. "You look like you've seen a ghost."

Riley's eyes were wide and he screamed again- but this time no sound was heard.

He took another step forward a smile forming on his blood spattered face. "Come on now Ry," he mocked moving away. Riley relaxed slightly as he stepped back. He took a few steps back his eyes scanning the floor before he scooped up the discarded gun. "What's the issue?" He asked he examining the weapon.

Riley wanted to run, but his feet were like blocks of cement, they were too heavy to move.

"You looked so confident before," he continued as Riley watched the gun barrel level with his head. When Riley didn't respond he cocked the gun and his eyes narrowed and his smile turned into a snarl. "Where's that confidence Riley? You looked so fucking confident when you shot me!"

"I'm sorry," Riley said quickly. "I'm sorry! Jack I'm sorry! I-I-" His words were suddenly cut off when Jack rushed forward and slammed him up against a wall, not that the words mattered, Riley couldn't form proper sentences either way.

"You what?" Jack spat as Riley felt the gun barrel pressed against his skull- it was still warm.

"I..."

"I don't even give a shit," Jack responded and tears began to fall from Riley's as Jack's finger tightened on the trigger.

"I'm sorry," he blubbered pathetically as he stared at Jack's curling finger. "I'm sorry. I-"

A soft click could be heard but nothing more.

Riley stared ahead at Jack trying to remember how to breathe. Jack stepped back looking too calm and he lowered the gun. He took a step back and released Riley who slid down the wall gulping in air.

"I trust you'll keep quiet about this," Jack said quietly. "All of this."

Riley looked up into his eyes to see as Jack tucked the gun in his waistband.

"I'm sure you understand what will happen if you don't."

Riley didn't respond his mind was zooming even faster than his heartbeats which seemed to beat so fast that it should short out all together.

Jack gave him a slight nod before turning around and walking toward the door and left, without looking back.
