uhh idk how american schools work so correct me if anythings wrong

"jeremy can you switch on that bunsen burner."

jeremy lazily leaned over, twisting the knob of the burner. jenna sighed, shooting jeremy a sideways glance as she reached over to get rid of the dirty flame.

"what's going on with you, you seem super out of it today. more so than usual.." jenna spoke softly, holding a beaker over the flame. jeremy tightened his safety goggles, scratching the back of his neck nervously.
jenna had noticed the way jeremy was more sluggish today, the way his mouth set into a straight line, how he sat slouched over; head being held up by his hand and the way he shivered, rubbing his exposed arms every so often.

"is uh, is it back?" jenna whispered, glancing around the classroom. jeremy shook his head, sitting back in his seat.
"no no, i just... valentines day is in a week and i'm single. i've never been able to kiss someone on valentines day so i guess it's just weighing me down." jeremy shrugged, beginning to write down notes on their lab.

"i could kiss you on the cheek, but i don't know if its the same as having a partner." jenna laughed lightly, adding powder to the beaker. jeremy let out a weak laugh, continuing to write down his observations.

"is there a specific person you'd like to kiss?" jenna grinned slyly, leaning closer to the pale boy.
"y-yeah.." jeremy's shoulders untensed then, a soft smile playing across his lips. jenna squealed, promptly getting shushed by the teacher. jeremy felt a blush crawl up his neck, biting his lip.

"who is it? do i know them? i can find out if they're dating anyone." jenna queried in a whisper. jeremy threw a quick glance to the front of the class where jake dillinger sat. jenna caught on to what jeremy was implying and she let out another squeal, which resulted in the teacher shushing her again.

jeremy hid his head in his hands, his entire face red.
"don't tell him please." jeremy pleaded.
"i won't, don't worry jeremy." jenna reassured the blushing boy next to her as she pulled out her phone under the lab, sending a quick text to brooke.

jeremy walked into math class, taking a seat next to brooke near the back of the room. he let out a sigh as he sat down, pulling out his textbook.

brooke silently greeted the tired boy as the teacher droned on about algebra stuff.

it was near end of the class, the part where everyone is either done with their worksheet or are rapidly trying to write down all of the questions before the bell rings. jeremy shivered for the umpteenth time today, and brooke was fed up.

"jeremy where the hell is your jacket?"
"i don't... have one.."
brooke rolled her eyes before smiling.

"why don't you ask jake if you can borrow his jacket. isn't that was boyfriends do?"

jeremy.exe has stopped working.

jeremy let out a flustered squeak before shaking his head, a mess of garbled stutters spilling out of his lips.

"i-i ca-n't ask him he'd think i-i'm a total cr-creep!"
"i thought you guys were friends?"
"we-we were, but that was when i had the sq-squip." jeremy's voice dropped to a whisper at the end, face still red as hell.

"well, if you won't ask him, i will."
"wh-"
brooke winked at jeremy before putting on a slight pout, calling jake's name in a voice that jeremy thought was meant to be seductive.

jeremy's eyes went wide, trying to silently tell brooke not to bring jake over, but it was too late, as the tall boy was already making his way towards the two. jeremy kept his eyes trained on his paper in front of him, not daring to move in fear of embarrassing himself.

"what's up brooke?" jake's smooth voice rang out and jeremy felt his stomach turn to mush.

"jeremy's cold and doesn't have a jacket. can he wear yours?" she begged, tilting her head slightly. jake looked to the pale boy, grinning as he shucked off his letterman jacket, handing it to jeremy. he took it hesitantly before slipping it over his striped t-shirt, mumbling a weak 'thank you'.

it smelled like oldspice and a specific 'jake' scent that jeremy couldn't quite describe. it was almost tangy in a way.
jeremy was practically drowning in all of the excess fabric. he bunched the sleeves into his fists, hugging himself as he finally worked up the courage to look at jake in his soft brown eyes before managing a weak smile, nodding his head in thanks.

jake smiled, winking at jeremy before returning to his own desk.
the bell rung then, kids grabbing their things and rushing out of the classroom to get to their next class.
jeremy let out a breath he didn't know he was holding, cheeks still burning up.

"jeremy oh my god! jake totally likes you back!" brooke spoke excitedly, grabbing her binder as she and jeremy made their way through the halls.
"h-he just gave me his jacket! he's probably done this with-with like, hundreds of girls." jeremy reasoned blowing hair out of his face.

brooke shot him a look that said 'whatever you say' as they split up to go to their separate classes.

as jeremy walked down the hall towards his spanish classroom, he couldn't help but notice people turning heads as he walked past. he panicked then, worrying he forgot to comb his hair or that his shirt was inside out. jeremy fastened his pace, speed-walking into his classroom and letting out a deep sigh as he took his seat between michael and jenna, rich sitting in front of him soon after.

"is that.." michael began.
"jake dillinger's jacket!? oooohh jeremy! why didn't you tell me you were dating him?!" rich finished for his friend, whisperinh not-so-subtly. jeremy felt a blush crawl up his neck.
"we aren't dating, he-"
"everyone on the middleborough snapchat story thinks you are. all of the 'jake-fangirls' are mad that he's taken AND gay." jenna explained, setting down her phone. jeremy's brain short-circuited.
