Yeah, I can't decide on the name.

Nova is an ordinary girl just trying to survive high school in Oklahoma. Growing up in a sleepy town in the edge of Tornado Ally was boring to say the least. She was counting down the days until she could hightail it outta there.

It never made sense to her why they were considered part of Tornado Ally when there had never been a tornado in Nova's life. Not even a small one. All of them were about an hour's drive away at the very least. But it all clicked when it came.

Excerpt-

I sat down against the corner of the wall. It poked me, but I had no choice. I was sitting next to my two best friends, Mia and Everly.

Some kids were joking around and a few teachers were yelling at them. I sighed, and opened up my computer to do my work. Anything to distract my mind from what was happening.

A tornado was wreaking havoc across the county. I heard shortly before coming down here about one of the elementary schools in the district next to ours that they had lost power and were being forced to use a backup generator. There were a bunch of kids screaming and crying from what I heard. Poor teachers and kids.

I forced my mind back to the task at hand. My reading teacher was still making us work in a crisis. That's Mrs. Smith for you. She can be nice one second and strict the next. She said that she "wanted to make the most of our time."

I was about to finish reading the article when I heard a faint humming noise. I looked up to see the lights starting to flicker. They went on and off and on and off and on and off. No on anymore. The only light source now was the computers.

Everly started to panic. "Calm down, Ev. I'm sure they'll come back on in a minute." But they never did.

Instead, the floor started to shake violently. One of the teachers watching the door screamed. "Tornado!"

Mia, Everly, and I huddled together and held hands. "Whatever happens, know that I love you guys." Mia started to cry.

"I know. And I promise to stick with y'all, no matter what." We waited for Everly to speak.

She was full on sobbing, worse than Mia. "I'll miss you two." It was like she took a knife to my heart. We might not all make it out alive. It was my turn to cry.

Everyone was shouting now. Panic filled the room like a bad song blaring from speakers. I was so distracted that something managed to hit the back of my head. Hard. The last thing I remember was the room going black."
