EXT. STREET – NIGHT – FLASHBACK

Tae Hyung scans his surroundings, often glancing down at his phone for directions.

TAE HYUNG: Is this the right place?

He scratches his forehead, confused.

TAE HYUNG: This is so annoyi-

He bumps into one of the passersby, and immediately bows.

TAE HYUNG: I'm sorry.

CHAE YOUNG: No...

Tae Hyung looks at her, his eyebrows raise noticing her pale and weak appearance. Chae Young turns around and leaves, quickly picking up her pace.

TAE HYUNG: That was odd.

He notices a trail of blood drops left on the pavement.

TAE HYUNG: What the-

CUT TO:

INT. TAE HYUNG'S ROOM – KIM RESCIDENCE – LATE AFTERNOON [PRESENT]

Tae Hyung's eyes flash open, he looks around his room – It was a dream.

He can't remember how he got here. He looks at the bandages covering the wounds on his arms.

TAE HYUNG: What happened?

He sits up, deciphering his thoughts.

TAE HYUNG: Y/n. And the girl...

He jumps out of bed just as the door opens. Nam Joon and Jungkook walk in.

TAE HYUNG [TO JUNGKOOK]: What're you doing here? Is Y/n okay? Where is she?

Jungkook stays silent and realization soon hits Tae Hyung.

TAE HYUNG: You can't locate her?

NAM JOON: She got you to the hospital and then...vanished.

Tae Hyung's shoulders droops as he sighs.

TAE HYUNG: Did you check the school girl... the one we thought committed suicide?

NAM JOON: About that-

JUNGKOOK: The girl died at the scene.

NAM JOON: You were lucky yourself, that truck didn't smash into you.

TAE HYUNG: She died?

Nam Joon nods, stressing Tae Hyung out even more.

TAE HYUNG [TO JUNGKOOK]: She must've told you something.

JUNGKOOK: I wouldn't be here if she did.

Tae Hyung runs his hand through his hair, trying to think of a solution – Why does she keep doing this? Aish.

JUNGKOOK: There's nothing we can do. When Y/n decides to go off grid, no one can find her. Not even me.

TAE HYUNG: Her phone-

NAM JOON: She's not answering. And most of the time it's switched off.

TAE HYUNG: No, did she receive a call when the accident took place?

JUNGKOOK: A text actually.

NAM JOON: "Caught you".

TAE HYUNG: You got to be kidding me.

He ruffles his hair, disconsolate and annoyed.

CUT TO:

EXT. CREMATORIUM – LATE AFTERNOON

Bo Kyung's family is bidding farewell to their only daughter at the crematorium. Y/n stares at them from afar. Tears roll down her face, as her nails dig deeper into the flesh of her palms.

Y/N: I'm so... sorry Bo Kyung... I'm sorr... sorry Chae Young...

Her phone rings. She answers it without even glancing at it and presses the phone against her ear.

? [OVER PHONE]: When the last tree falls, the animal has nowhere to hide.

Y/n exhales heavily.

Y/N [INTO PHONE]: Is this what you wanted? To make me this helpless.

The caller chuckles.

? [OVER PHONE]: You haven't changed at all, it's disappointing.

Y/N [INTO PHONE]: Where is she?

? [OVER PHONE]: I didn't think you'd run Labyrinth after how you killed Chae Young. Don't you feel ashamed, reaping the fruits of her hard work.

Y/n bites her lip to stop her sobs from being heard.

? [OVER PHONE]: (Away from the phone) Min Joo! What are you going to do? You might not make it out alive if she's going to work like this-

Y/n's eyes widen.

Y/N [INTO PHONE]: Ya! You want to die?!

? [OVER PHONE]: I'm already dying waiting for you, don't make me wait for too long Y/n!

Y/N: Stop-

? [OVER PHONE]: Ok, let's do this. I'll give you time till midnight to find me. Don't keep me waiting.

The phone slides down Y/n's hand as soon as the call ends. She falls to her knees sobbing both in pain and terror.

CUT TO:

INT. SEO RESCIDENCE – LATE AFTERNOON

Tae Hyung barges in. Ye Ji enters the hallway and is surprised to see him.

YE JI: Tae Hyung? What brings you here?

TAE HYUNG: I came to meet Mr. Seo. It's urgent.

YE JI: He's not home. Did something happen?

TAE HYUNG: It's...It's Y/n...

Ye Ji's face falls hearing Y/n's name.

YE JI: What about Y/n? Is she okay?

Tae Hyung doesn't know how to explain it to her, he can't find the right words.

YE JI: Tell me.

TAE HYUNG: This person keeps calling Y/n. He's kidnapped a high schooler and is threatening to kill her if Y/n doesn't find him in time.

Ye Ji's jaw drops.

YE JI: What?

TAE HYUNG: She's been losing her mind ever since she got the call. Do you know a Min Joo?

Ye Ji suddenly realizes, making her shake her head in denial.

YE JI: Oh, no, no, no.

She clasps her mouth, panicked.

YE JI: Not this again.

Tae Hyung's forehead wrinkles – Why's she saying the same thing?

YE JI: Not again.

TAE HYUNG: Y/n said the same thing. What does that mean?

Ye Ji looks at Tae Hyung.

TAE HYUNG: What...What happened?

Ye Ji takes a deep breath deciding whether to tell him or not. With a heavy heart he decides to spill Y/n's secret.

YE JI: It was back when Y/n was in high school. She never had any friends; she was happy being by herself, doing the stuff she liked.

She looks away.

YE JI: You know how she is. She lives and works in her own world, a world an ordinary person can't survive in. Then one day she met someone who got her.

She smiles.

YE JI: Her soulmate, Chae Young.

Tae Hyung's eyes lower – That's who Chae Young was.

YE JI: Together, they started a website, uploading articles about bullies, corrupt teachers...Y/n was the brains and Chae Young was her partner in crime. They were inseparable.

A painful smile appears on Ye Ji's face in reminiscence.

YE JI: Y/n started investigating a serial murder case, a very dangerous one. Do you remember the Blind Serial murders?

TAE HYUNG: Yeah, it was huge. How long has it been? 5–6 years?

YE JI: Yes. It was their first grown up case.

Her smile fades.

YE JI: Chae Young, didn't want Y/n to start her own investigation.

Tae Hyung listens intently, finally getting to know what Y/n's most painful scar is.

YE JI: But Y/n went ahead with it, behind Chae Young's back. Soon enough she found something on the killer and then...

She can't complete her sentence.

YE JI: After Chae Young's death, Y/n cut off all her connections from the world and suffered alone, blaming herself for what happened.

Tae Hyung doesn't notice the tears welling up in his eyes.

YE JI: No more friends. Nothing else but reporting. All because she had once promised Chae Young, she'd continue being an investigative reporter no matter what happened.

Ye Ji wipes the tears off her face.

YE JI: We never had this conversation.

Tae Hyung nods, his shoulders tense – How can someone be that strong?

CUT TO:

INT. TAE HYUNG'S CAR - LATE AFTERNOON

Tae Hyung climbs in, making a call and fixes his phone to the dashboard. He fastens his seatbelt.

JIN [OVER PHONE]: Hello?

TAE HYUNG [INTO PHONE]: It's me. I think I know where she is.

JIN [OVER PHONE]: Really? Where?

Tae Hyung starts the car.

TAE HYUNG [INTO PHONE]: Right where it all began.

CUT TO:

INT. CLASSROOM - Y/N'S HIGH SCHOOL – EVENING

The door slides open, Y/n walks into the empty classroom. She came here to rip this place apart but stops dead, she can't do it.

Y/N: He knows how to get under my skin.

She stares at the desk near the window, her former desk. She walks to it, and picks up the envelope left on it. She opens it and pulls out the contents, it's a card – Welcome.

Her breathing becomes shallow.

Y/N: What am I supposed to do? Huh? What does he want from me?

And then it starts, the orchestral tune, echoing through the empty school.

CHAE YOUNG [OVER SPEAKER]: Please! Please spare me!...Please!

Y/N: Chae Young?

MIN JOO [OVER SPEAKER]: Unnie! Please save me!

Screams. And more screams! Y/n covers her ears, her whole-body trembling. The projector switches on, Y/n's gaze flicks to it.

Y/N: Min Joo?

A clip plays showing Min Joo tied to a metal chair, in what looks like a dungeon.

MIN JOO [ON SCREEN]: Please save me...Unnie...

She sobs. Y/n quivers.

Y/N: Oh-Oh my God.

A silhouette appears in front of the camera blocking Min joo.

Y/N: You jerk, you scumbag.

? [ON SCREEN]: Shut up!

Min Joo suppresses her sobs. The silhouette turns to look into the camera.

? [ON SCREEN]: Tick Tock.

He kicks Min Joo off her seat, but Y/n feels it hurt probably more than Min Joo. The video clip ends, Y/n thrashes the desks around.

Y/N: Where am I supposed to go?! Where is she?!

The door slides open with thunderous force.

TAE HYUNG: Y/n!

Y/n freezes seeing him. His eyes widen seeing her state.

Y/N: What're you doing here? Are you crazy?! You need to get out!

Tae Hyung races to her.

TAE HYUNG: I'm not going anywhere.

Y/N: Please! Go!!

TAE HYUNG: My father can get the police on this-

Y/N: No, he'll definitely kill her if the police get involved! Please don't ask anything or do anything! Leave! I have to find Min Joo!!

TAE HYUNG: You find her. But I'm not letting you go there alone-

Y/N: You don't get it!

TAE HYUNG: Let me help-

Y/N: He's going to kill everyone! Leave!

TAE HYUNG: I'm not leaving!

Y/N: He keeps messing with me! He's in my head! I won't be able to protect you.

TAE HYUNG: Y/n-

Y/N: If something happens to her...I-I

TAE HYUNG: Y/n!

He holds her shoulders, trying to snap her out of her panicked daze.

TAE HYUNG: He won't do anything to her. We'll find her before he does.

Y/n's head drops.

TAE HYUNG: Min Joo will be okay. You don't have to solve everything on your own. This is not like last time. I'm not leaving... Okay?

Y/n manages a nod. Tae Hyung takes a deep breath. Y/n suddenly stops crying, she sniffles realizing something.

Y/N: Of course...

TAE HYUNG: What?

Y/N: He was right there.

TAE HYUNG: Where?

Y/N: He was right in front of me.

TAE HYUNG: Where is he?

CUT TO:

INT. PARKING LOT – NIGHT

The car pulls into the basement of Burger King, 4 blocks away from the Labyrinth office. Y/n and Tae Hyung step out of the car. Y/n, walking to the stairs, suddenly comes to a halt, a few steps ahead of Tae Hyung.

TAE HYUNG: What?

He's concerned. Y/n turns on her heels and stares at him, so much so that he feels like he did something wrong.

TAE HYUNG: What?

Y/N: You know what to do, right?

She bites her lips – Sorry Tae Hyung but I have to do this alone.

TAE HYUNG: Don't worry, I wont mess it up. I'll check the building discretely.

Y/N: This man- he can't be messed with.

TAE HYUNG: I know. You can trust me.

Y/N: Thanks. I'll be waiting at the FedEx building.

Tae Hyung nods and they part ways.

CUT TO:

INT. UNDER CONSTRUCTION BUILDING – JEJU ISLAND – NIGHT

Y/n climbs the stairs to the 10th floor. The space is dark and cold.

Y/N: Min Joo.

She eases finding Min Joo but she's still tied to a chair, a cloth stuffed in her mouth.

Y/N: Min Joo!

Y/n takes a single step forward and all of a sudden Min Joo is pulled back closer to the edge of the floor, closer to the 10-story plunge from the side of the building.

Y/N: NO!

She looks for the cause and notices the rope tied to Min Joo's ankles, it's being pulled from the outside. Few more feet and Min Joo falls to her death.

Min Joo tries to warn Y/n but her words are muffled.

Y/N: You're going to be okay. I'm here now...

Min Joo shakes her head in fear. Y/n slowly reaches Min Joo and quickly unties her hands. She pulls out the rag from her mouth.

MIN JOO: Unnie! Don't! It's not safe.

Y/N: You're safe now. Everything will be okay.

She tugs on the ropes attached to the ankles; it won't budge.

MIN JOO: Unnie... please leave!

Y/N: I won't let you die...

Y/n unties the first few knots on the rope.

MIN JOO: Unnie!

It happens in a flash; the release of the rope triggers the hidden twin crossbows, the arrows rip through the flesh of both of Y/n's arms, she loses her grip on the rope.

Min Joo is pulled back, so much so, she reaches the edge of the floor. Y/n grabs her arm, pulling her back with all her strength.

Y/N: No! Min Joo!

MIN JOO: Unnie!!! Please-

Whatever is pulling Min Joo from the outside is much stronger than Y/n.

Y/N: NO!

Y/n's grip breaks, and Min Joo is dragged off the edge.

A silhouette appears behind Y/n and pushes Y/n off the same edge, thrusting her to her death, 10 floors below.

FADE OUT.
